Repurposing Cross Arms from Power Poles
This customer is going to re use old wood cross arms from power lines to be the beams in his new pole barn. From the ground they don't look like much but they are 9" X 4" and 20 feet long, perfectly weathered. They were clear red antique red pine. I would take a semi load of these if I could get my hands on them.

Powder room vanity from locally sourced pecan.
This powder room was very narrow with an offset entrance. A traditional vanity crowded the entrance. Fashioned after a farmhouse sink, we were able to maximize the space by offsetting the countertop. The pecan cradles the white porcelain complimenting each other.

Memorial Park Conservancy has installed additional benches in the Clay Family Eastern Glade. You will find them on the elevated boardwalk in the wetlands area. Pepper Creek Creations & Sawmill Services milled the live edge slabs from trees that had fallen in the park.

Another heritage piece.
Our latest client delivered a 16’ pecan log sourced from their grandfather’s place. We have slabbed the log to their specifications and dried in our onsite kiln. Moving slabs 16’ long around the warehouse with a forklift is a challenge. So we loaded them on dollies to be rolled into position.
Final product will be two tables. We look forward to sharing additional pictures and the final unveiling in Houston

Delivery Day
The 9 pine and one oak logs are back in Houston. They have been delivered to Renfrow +Co metalsmiths. Next step is the fabrication of the steel frames. Soon you will see new split log benches in the Southern Perimeter Trail of Memorial Park Conservancy

When you are 230 miles NW of Houston you are in a totally different climate. Check out the moisture content of the Memorial Park benches. My Delmhorst moisture meter readings are as low as 3.8%. The acceptable wood moisture content normally ranges from 6% to 8% for woodworkers who build cabinets and fine furniture.

Split Log Benches For Memorial Park, Houston, TX
We are proud to be part of the Memorial Park Master Plan and vision. The 2011 drought was devastating to the park with the loss of so many old growth trees. From this has come a renewed future for Memorial Park. Commissioned by Memorial Park Conservancy Pepper Creak Creations is milling old growth pecan trees for split log benches.

With the help of some heavy equipment, the park loaded 6 pine and one oak log they harvested from the restoration of the park. We transported the log to our Wood-Mizer mill in Lometa, TX. The logs were cut to 7 feet lengths and ripped twice to create the seat width and depth required by the park. A separate log was milled to be the back rest. The ends of the logs were treated to decrease checking of the logs. We removed the bark, clamp and store the logs in the warehouse in Lometa to begin the drying process. The final drying process was kiln drying to remove insects and further reduce the moisture content.

At the warehouse the moisture content is 7-10%. The logs will be delivered to Memorial Park on July 7, 2021. It has been raining daily in Houston since June 1st.The wood will adjust very quickly to the high humidly and will need to remain clamped. Keep an eye out for the split log benches coming to Memorial Park.
