What looked like a simple chimney leak turned out to be much more — and exactly why proper repairs matter.

Our SP2 Contracting team was called out to address a severely leaking chimney, but once we opened the area up, we found old patchwork repairs and even coil metal that had been used in the past to cover rotted decking rather than replace it the right way. Unfortunately, that kind of shortcut may hide a problem for a while, but it won’t fix it.

So we did what should have been done from the start.

We completely removed the old chimney, replaced all damaged and rotted decking, installed new synthetic felt underlayment, and finished the repair with beautiful GAF Timberline HDZ shingles in Weathered Wood to blend with the existing roof as closely as possible. Because this home sits in a wooded area, the original shingles have weathering and pollen staining, so the new shingles won’t be a perfect color match immediately — but the structure is now sound, sealed, and built the right way.

Most importantly, this homeowner can continue enjoying the look and character of their fireplace and mantel without the stress of ongoing leaks and water damage.

There’s nothing we appreciate more at SP2 Contracting than repeat customers — especially the kind who no longer feel like clients, but like friends and family.

Last year, we had the privilege of transforming this home with all new windows, new siding, and beautiful board and batten accents. This year, they invited us back to help complete the next phase of their vision — and what an upgrade it turned out to be.

For this project, we gave the home’s outdoor living space a full makeover, including:

• Wrapping all porch posts to match the home’s trim package
• Installing custom black aluminum railing on the front porch
• Completing a full tear-out of the existing screened-in porch down to the framing
• Expanding the space with an additional deck area for extra seating and entertaining
• Adding custom railing throughout the back deck
• Wrapping all rear porch posts for a clean, finished look
• Building a brand-new screened-in porch
• Relocating the steps for improved layout and flow
• Installing a new screen door
• Installing a new exterior sliding glass door with screen access for easy entertaining from the kitchen to the porch/deck
• Adding solar post caps to beautifully light the space at night
• Installing new underpinning beneath the main porch area, complete with an access door

We also completed crawl space insulation repairs for this homeowner after previous insulation had been improperly installed and was falling down.

The end result is a beautiful backyard retreat built for relaxing, hosting, and making memories for years to come — and we’re thankful we got to be the team that brought it to life.
