Just wrapped up a fun little project here in Londonderry — a homeowner wanted lighting inside their linen closet but didn't want to fumble for a switch. We installed LED strip lighting with a door-activated sensor, so it turns on the second you open the door and shuts off when you close it. Sees all the way to the back now, no more reaching into a dark cabinet.
It's the kind of small upgrade most people don't realize is even an option — works just as well for pantries, primary closets, under-vanity areas, you name it.
Anybody else have a closet or cabinet in your house that's a black hole? Curious what other folks have done for theirs.

Quick PSA for anyone in town thinking about adding an EV charger, hot tub, heat pump, or anything else that pulls a lot of power.

We were on a job in Londonderry last week. Homeowner wanted an EV charger installed. A couple of electricians had already come out and given quotes without ever opening the existing panel. We always open the panel first because adding a big load to a system that can't handle it is where problems start.

Glad we did this time. Water had been getting into the panel from outside, which is more common than people realize. The bus bar (that's the metal strip where the breakers plug in) was rusted out. The main breaker had so much corrosion inside that it would no longer operate, which means in a short circuit it wouldn't have shut the power off. Photos in the post.
We ended up replacing the panel with a new 200 amp electrical panel, AFCI/GFCI protected panel outlet and installing the EV charger.

The takeaway for homeowners: if you're getting quotes for an EV charger, heat pump, or any project that adds electrical load, ask the electrician if they're going to open the panel and inspect it before pricing the job. Five minutes of looking can save you from a much bigger headache. And if your home is 25+ years old and the panel has never been inspected, it's worth doing regardless.
Happy to answer questions in the comments or messenger if anyone has them.

Did you know: Because of synthetic materials, furniture and construction, fire spreads faster than ever before.

You know how important it is to have working smoke alarms, escape plans, and a designated meeting place in case of a fire. But did you know that closing your doors in your home is also important for your safety?

Closed bedroom doors can slow the spread of fire and can give you more time to escape!

NEWS RELEASE: STATE FIRE MARSHAL REMINDS GRANITE STATERS TO CHECK FOR RECALLS AFTER CARBON MONOXIDE SCARE

CONCORD, N.H. – As National Poison Prevention Week gets underway, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding residents to make informed decisions when purchasing, using, and maintaining safety equipment and household appliances, especially carbon monoxide (CO) alarms, boilers and fuel‑burning devices. The NHSFMO also encourages residents to have equipment installed by qualified professionals and to read the instruction manual.

Recent incidents in the state linked to carbon monoxide poisoning underscore the importance of purchasing certified, reliable products and maintaining them in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Last month, members of Plymouth Fire Rescue determined an on-demand water heater had malfunctioned and leaked carbon monoxide, leaving two residents hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Investigators later confirmed the water heater had an active recall.

“Buying smart doesn’t stop at the register, and it’s not enough to maintain your equipment,” said New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey. “After you purchase and install an appliance, occasionally look for recalls. Items like boilers, heaters, kitchen appliances, lithium-ion battery products, and alarms can be recalled months or even years after they’re sold, and staying informed ensures the products in your home are both reliable and safe.”

In February, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) notified purchasers that thousands of smoke alarms had been recalled after determining the product may fail to sound and warn homeowners during a fire. A separate warning was issued in 2024 for combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. CPSC’s Recalls & Product Safety Warnings database also indicates that 11 boilers have been recalled over the past five years.

“When it comes to protecting your family, it’s essential to purchase from reputable retailers and verify that devices meet nationally recognized standards,” said Toomey. “Also, remember to replace alarms and batteries as recommended by the manufacturer.”

Consumers should report incidents or safety concerns at SaferProducts.gov, where they can also find the most up-to-date information on existing recalls.

This is why trusting cheap, fast electrical work in your home can lead to an absolute disaster.
We responded to an emergency call in an existing home built around 2003, where the homeowners discovered an outlet literally on fire. These terrifying photos show the extent of the damage.

The root cause of this near-total house fire? "Backstabbed" outlets installed during the original construction.
This cheap and fast installation method, common in many high-volume developments, relies on a flimsy internal spring connection instead of a secure terminal screw. This is what happened:

The Problem: A large appliance was plugged into the circuit. Over two decades of use, the flimsy backstab connections heated up under load, causing the internal plastic and wire insulation to degrade.

The Result: A high-resistance connection that generated enough heat (see the thermal runaway in the photos) to cause terminal failure and eventually open flames inside the wall behind a bed! This was seconds away from igniting bedding and causing a catastrophic house fire.

Another Major Flaw: We also noted the circuit was protected by an older, recalled "blue button" breaker, which had never been replaced, adding another layer of risk to an already dangerous situation.

The Immediate Dangers Identified:

🔥Severe Fire Hazard: Flames inside the wall cavity next to flammable materials.
⚠️ Improper Wiring Method: Reliance on failure-prone "backstab" connections.
🛑 Recalled Safety Equipment: Use of a known recalled circuit breaker.

✅ Our Solution:

•Full Circuit Inspection: Comprehensive testing of all wiring and insulation for heat damage.

•Component Replacement: Opening every outlet box on the circuit, removing all failed components, and replacing them with high-quality, side-wired devices for robust connections.

•Advanced Protection: Installation of a new Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) Breaker—a specialized circuit breaker designed to detect and interrupt the electrical arcs (like those that caused this fire) before they can ignite flammable materials.

This isn't just about fixing a broken outlet; it's about eliminating a lethal fire risk. Protect your family and your biggest investment. If you have concerns, questions or just aren’t sure what the next steps look like just give us a call or book through our google profile linked below.
