This Friday, June 27th through July 26th, I will have 5 paintings available at the Peninsula Gallery in Lewes, De, for the “Local Horizons” exhibition. For more everyone asking how my daughter is, how our family is - thank you. I’m happy to share she just bravely completed 27 rounds of radiation, and we’re able to enjoy a bit of time together as a family for a few weeks. Thank you for every kind word, prayer, vibe put out into the universe in her honor. 💗

I usually keep my family life and my art life separate on social media, because I’m a fairly private person. But something has happened recently that has turned our world upside down. Our 15 year old daughter, Gavyn, has been diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.

For the foreseeable future, our main focus is going to be on her treatment, researching clinical trials, traveling to ensure she receives the best care possible, and our family.

I will likely be quiet on here, but I will definitely be using this platform to view art by fellow artists to escape from time to time. My thanks to all who share their creativity on here. Now, more than ever, I’m so grateful for this community. 💛

Even though I can’t paint all of the time, the bits of time where I create make me feel more grounded and connected to my creative self.

They help me feel like I’m still moving forward, improving, and like there is a live artistic wire I’m still connected to, even when I have to go a few days, sometimes a week or two, in between, studio sessions. Having that artistic thread alive within me during those stagnant creative days keeps me motivated and excited to come back to my work.

And when I get impatient about not being able to do more, or improve faster, I have to remind myself that I’m in this for the long term. I’m on a life-long journey of artistic exploration and improvement. And while there are goals I want to meet…

There is no finish line. So there is no rush.

I’m excited to get back into the studio after being away all week… but this time of the year it always feels a bit harder to prioritize painting. All of the outdoor work that needs to get done always feels so urgent (the cleaning up, weeding, re-mulching, new planting, etc…), in addition to regular life’s chaos, and I feel like yard work eats up my weekends in the spring. But I’ve made a promise to myself that on my free weekends I will paint first! And yard work will just have to be second.

I REALLY love an art museum. 💗 This past weekend I was able to visit the Smithsonian American Art Museum for the first time during our quick family getaway to DC, and it was fantastic. My girls aren’t exactly the “museum type”, but they, and my husband, humored me, and we explored the main areas I wanted to see the most for a few hours. Their collection of impressionists, specifically their collection of Monet, was a big highlight, as was the Mary Cassat exhibition. And my girls got a kick out of seeing a DaVinci painting in person and a few paintings by Van Gogh and Degas.
