I started Advantage Roofing back in 2008 for one simple reason. I'd watched this industry take good people for a ride, and I decided I'd be the opposite of that. When I give you my word, it's written in stone. We'll go to battle with your insurance company so you don't have to lift a finger. So before you sign anything some stranger hands you in your driveway, get a second opinion from somebody local who's still going to answer the phone next year. What to do when a roofer knocks on your door after a storm? Don't say yes in the driveway, no matter how friendly or how fast they talk. Here in East Texas, after the hail stops, folks start showing up offering a "free roof" the same afternoon. Some are fine. A lot of them are out-of-town crews chasing the storm — they collect your insurance money, rush the job, and they're long gone when your roof starts leaking that winter. Take a breath. Get it in writing. Check who you're actually dealing with before anybody climbs up there. Call a local company that'll still be around when you need us.

The sales pitch always sounds great. It's what happens after that gets people. These storm chasers blow into town, collect your insurance money, do a rush job or no job at all, and then they're gone. Fast forward a couple winters, your roof starts leaking, you dig out that card they handed you — and the number's disconnected. Your warranty went right out of town with them. That's the whole game. That's why I keep telling folks in East Texas to use somebody local who'll still answer the phone next year. The lowest, fastest offer is almost never the cheapest one in the long run.

What to do when a roofer knocks on your door after a storm? Stay polite, take their info, and don't sign a single thing standing in your driveway. That's it. A storm rolls through East Texas and all of a sudden there's somebody in your yard offering a "free roof" — and some of those folks are legit, and some are out-of-towners who'll vanish the second there's a problem. Slow it all the way down. Get their name, write down who they say they work for, and tell them you'll be in touch after you've done your homework. Storm rolls through East Texas, and by that afternoon there's a stranger in your driveway offering you a free roof. Here's the first thing I want you to hang onto: you do not have to decide anything right then, no matter how friendly or how fast they talk. In Texas, the state doesn't require a single thing to call yourself a roofer. A guy can slap a magnet on his vehicle and go door to door the same day the hail stops. Some of those folks are fine. A whole lot of them are out-of-town crews just chasing the storm. Slow down. Take your time. Your biggest investment deserves it.
