For those thinking of cutting their own trees, please read this message from the Mo Department of Conservation.
A Message from the Missouri Department of Conservation
Most importantly, ash trees that have been infested and/or killed by EAB are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS to work around!!! They start to lose moisture as soon as the larvae begin making galleries under the bark; by the time EAB kills a tree, it is really dry and brittle. Several arborists in other states have been killed while removing dead ash. Large branches tend to break off within 10 inches of the trunk, and trunks may break above cuts or even in several places up the tree while you are sawing. Some people describe these trees as giant, deadly Styrofoam cups, so please be very careful around them!
