The kitchen and dining area at the Coolidge Residence.

The family’s lifestyle naturally revolves around food, so the kitchen became the true center of the home, while prioritizing function. Accessed through sliding doors, it was designed to either open up to the dining and living spaces or close off when needed during larger family cooking days. One of our favorite details is the reimagined built-in breakfast nook, where a cozy U-shaped bench creates an easy spot for everyday meals, slow mornings, and the informal gatherings that happen throughout the day.

Embedded within the landscape, the residence unfolds through a series of courtyards, terraces, and open-air spaces that draw light deep into the home. Organized around a central courtyard, the design balances privacy, daylight, and expansive views while maintaining a restrained presence from the street. Terraced gardens and outdoor rooms extend the architecture into the natural slope.

Sitting behind a 1920's original home, The West Adams Duplex is a contemporary take on the craftsman style.

A typological volume, in the same accent color of the main house, sits atop a sturdy stucco base. Board and batten, alternating widths on the flat planes and accentuating the windows with extra thickness, embrace the neighborhood’s long-standing signature look without looking dated. The design emphasizes the use of outdoor space by disguising parking spaces as outdoor hangout spots and decks as sun porches. A little multi-family compound complete with a very Southern California citrus tree.

Las Casas is a hillside family compound designed for a young family rebuilding after the recent Palisades fires. As part of Venn Studio’s ongoing involvement in fire rebuild efforts across Los Angeles, the project reflects a deeper commitment to helping families navigate the process of this new chapter.

In close collaboration with the homeowners, the design reimagines their property through the lens of resilience, drawing inspiration from the mid-century modern home that was lost while shaping a new vision for how the family will live moving forward.
