Long before the world knew his name as a presidential candidate, Black Enterprise recognized Rev. Jesse L. Jackson as a driving force behind economic empowerment.

This 1974 cover reflected his early work urging corporations and institutions to open doors—and ownership—to Black Americans. He understood that civil rights without economic access was an incomplete victory, and he spent decades pressing for both.

His work has helped reshape how Black British actors are represented on screen, both in the UK and internationally, while maintaining creative credibility across Hollywood and British productions.

Beyond acting, Elba has used his platform to support social causes, particularly through his advocacy for young people, community development, and crime prevention. He has worked closely with organisations addressing youth violence and opportunity gaps, including initiatives focused on rehabilitation and mentorship, and has served as a UN goodwill ambassador supporting sustainable development in Africa.)

According to reports, Veteran character actor Isiah Whitlock Jr., known for roles in The Wire, Veep, Your Honor, The Residence, and several Spike Lee films, died Tuesday in New York at 71. His manager, Brian Liebman, told Deadline that Whitlock passed peacefully after a brief illness. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
