Maggie in the Woods

My portraiture collection features minimalist silhouettes on colorful, geometric backgrounds. "Maggie in the Woods" relates a pattern from traditional Irish art, with colors inspired by a wild foxglove spotted in the woods surrounding Kylemore Abbey in Connemara, Ireland. The title of the piece is borrowed from a traditional Irish instrumental tune.

Luminary is a visual representation of the physics of the natural world. External threads of light -- representing ideas -- pierce the androgynous silhouette. The beams (in metallic acrylic) reflect off of the silhouette's internal surfaces, interweaving and presenting something entirely new, as if the figure itself is, literally, a luminary.

The squonk is a mythical creature originating from North American folklore, particularly in the forests of Pennsylvania. A melancholic and reclusive creature, the squonk is covered in warty, loose, and ill-fitting skin, which it finds so hideous that it constantly weeps. The squonk is so ashamed of its appearance that it spends its time hiding from humans. If a hunter manages to track down a squonk, the creature will dissolve into a pool of tears when cornered, making it nearly impossible to catch.
