CORPORATION MARKET PLACE:
CK Architecture designed Market place with 9 chef counters in the heart of the historic Downtown Los Angeles.

Inspired by the concept of the Los Angeles Grand Central Market, the owner asked for a communal restaurant with 9 different chef counters for lease.

By placing a bar as an anchor at the very end of the market place, an espresso bar at its entrance and the remaining chef counters in between, we set up a processional space. The chef counters and kitchens are located against the opposing walls of the space while the seating is mixed in along the center of the space.

The 17-foot ceiling affords ample space for advertisements in the direction of travel as well as for the placement of menus along the chef counters.

Restrooms and janitorial services are located at the back of the space near the bar, while most of the storage areas are in the basement.

CK Architecture designed restaurant TAISHO in Sherman Oaks

Taisho Sherman Oaks is a casual modern Japanese restaurant. The restaurant stands out from typical commercial retail with its art-driven design combining modern taste with traditional elements. We designed a facade that has a contemporary look while revealing the interior of the restaurant to the street.

While the design is certainly inspired by Japanese interiors, it is reinterpreted to avoid indulging in a cliche.
​
Humble but not austere, simple but not lacking, we imagine a space that is elegant and finished.
​
Taking clues from the process and sequence of the menu, the design aims to create a focused visual field from sequenced and repeated patterns and movement in material.

Los Angeles Magazine's architecture critic Greg Goldin called this private library "the best small building to be constructed in Los Angeles in decades." The innovative zinc-clad structure in Hancock Park brilliantly solves a bibliophile's storage crisis while creating a stunning architectural landmark that doubles as an outdoor cinema.

The library was designed by Christoph Kapeller and Mitchell De Jarnett.

WHISKY HOTEL FACADE

When we designed the facades for the Whisky Hotel in Hollywood, we struck a careful balance of repetition and individuality.

Each room has a large and a small floor-to-ceiling window with a mirrored whisky cabinet in between;

The window arrangement alternates (mirrored) from floor to floor;
The windows are set back to create visual depth during daylight hours and allow for indirect lighting at night;

Vertical black aluminium louvers are juxtaposed by sculpted bright window headers that are illuminated at night.

When looking at the checkerboard facade this window arrangement contrasts the regular grid of columns and slabs.

The Wilcox Ave. facade of the recently completed Whisky Hotel in Hollywood. Views as rendering and throughout the day. Amazing how close the rendering resembles the real building!
