Day 18 and I’m still surprised by how much the swelling moved around. From day 7 to 10 my legs were intensely swollen, and now I’ve got this bruise showing up on my foot while everything slowly calms down.

The surgery was around $18,400, so I keep trying not to panic over every new color or swollen spot, but it’s hard when recovery keeps changing day by day.

Did anyone else get foot bruising or swelling this far after surgery, and how long did it take to fade?

I’m trying not to overthink it, but I’m in the staples-still-in stage and this knee looks so swollen compared to what I expected. The incision seems to be holding together okay, but the tightness around the front of the knee is what’s really annoying me.

This surgery was around $18,400, so I’m trying to follow everything exactly and not panic over every little change. I know swelling is normal, but it’s hard not to compare with everyone else’s healing photos.

For those who had staples, did your knee still look this puffy before they came out?

I’m trying not to overthink it, but I do have some bruising traveling up my thigh and it looks worse than it feels. I’m post-op and still dealing with the usual swelling, tightness, and random color changes that seem to show up out of nowhere.

After an $18,400 surgery, I keep reminding myself that healing isn’t always pretty, but it still makes me pause when I see bruising this high up.

Did anyone else have bruising move up the thigh during recovery, and how long did it take to fade?

I honestly didn’t expect to be saying this so soon, but 6 days post-op from my left TKR and I’m feeling really encouraged. I had the sub-vastus technique done Monday, and by day 4 I was able to make full revolutions on the exercise bike.

Today I can fully straighten my leg and push to about 135° ROM, with pain still pretty manageable. I’ve only taken three pain pills so far, which honestly surprised me. After an $18,400 surgery, it feels good to see early progress and not feel completely defeated.

For anyone nervous about surgery or early recovery, there really is hope. Has anyone else had a smoother start than they expected?

I’m still dealing with a lot of swelling, so I bought these knee ice packs from TEMU and honestly they’ve been great so far. They came in a pack of 2, were pretty cheap, and they cover the knee really well.

They don’t fully Velcro around my knee yet because I’m still too swollen, but I can still rest them over the area and they feel so good. After an $18,400 surgery, I’ll take any affordable recovery item that actually helps.

Has anyone else found cheap little recovery items that ended up being surprisingly useful?

I honestly didn’t expect the first day to feel this real until I was lying here with the brace on, yellow socks and all. Surgery is done, leg is wrapped up, and now I’m trying to stay calm, comfortable, and not overthink every little ache.

This whole thing was around $18,400, so I’m really hoping the stiffness, swelling, and awkward hospital-bed life are all worth it in the end.

For those who’ve been through this, what helped you the most during the first couple days?

I’m 8 weeks out from my first TKR and now recovering from the second knee, and I wanted to share one small thing that helped me. With my first knee, I used a cloth under the ice pad, but the strap caused so much pain behind my knee.

This time I tried a Tubigrip sleeve under the ice machine wrap, and it’s been so much better. The Velcro sticks to it, I can control the tightness easier, and it keeps the pad from rubbing my skin. After spending around $28,000 on both knees, I’ll take any little comfort trick I can get.

Has anyone else found small recovery hacks that made a big difference?

Matching socks and matching knees. 😎

I had my left TKR on November 11th, then turned around and had the right one done 3 weeks later. I knew this was going to be a lot, but seeing both legs healing at the same time really makes it feel real.

Between the swelling, bruising, stiffness, and trying to stay comfortable, it’s been a full-time job. The whole process is around $28,000, so I’m really hoping all this effort pays off once I’m walking better again.

For anyone who had both knees done close together, when did you finally feel like you were turning the corner?

11 days post-op and I’m honestly feeling pretty proud seeing the incision look like this. Still dealing with swelling, tightness, and that weird stiff feeling around the knee, but it finally feels like I’m starting to see small progress.

This surgery was around $18,400, so every little improvement feels like a win. I’m trying to stay patient and not compare my healing to everyone else, but it’s hard not to wonder if I’m on track.

For those who’ve been through this, how was your knee looking and feeling around day 11?

I honestly didn’t expect Day 1 to feel this encouraging. Post-surgery bandage is still on, swelling is definitely there, but I managed a flight of stairs, a 50m walk, and even got to 90° bend today.

The surgery was around $18,400, so every small win feels huge right now. I’m trying not to get ahead of myself, but after worrying so much before surgery, today gave me a little confidence that maybe I can actually do this recovery thing.

For those further along, did your first few days start strong and then slow down, or did progress keep building from here?
