Alloi Architecture + Construction is an independent design-build firm specializing in meticulously efficient and profoundly innovative solutions to contemporary residential and commercial environments. Servicing both local and national clients, Alloi blends the expertise of architects, builders and custom fabricators to provide logical solutions to space that enhance our clients' performance, product and lifestyle. With an advanced knowledge of the building process, encyclopedic familiarity with materials, and a detailed focus on the individual needs of each client, Alloi offers not only functional designs, but inspirational spatial paradigms which increase understanding and awareness of how the use of space effects lifestyle or a company's image in the marketplace. Each project is digitally modeled using building information modeling before any construction commences. We approach every design challenge as an opportunity to leave a better impact on the environment through the use of ecologically friendly building materials and solar analysis.

At night, the front façade of the Dihedral House in Baldwin Hills becomes a study in wood, steel, and light. Flush western red cedar conceals a hidden entry door, and standing seam steel wraps continuously from the roof onto the face of the house.

Above the entry, a 26 foot steel canopy doubles as the home’s rain gutter. When it rains, water from the whole roof falls nine feet from its edge into a board-formed concrete rock garden.

and editor Aidan W Taylor invited our founder Marcos to share his favorite travel destination.

“The Thermal Baths in Vals, Switzerland, is a remarkable building that speaks to me personally and to the ethos of our practice at Alloi. Peter Zumthor embedded the building, completed in 1996, into a hillside beneath a planted roof. Seen from the slope above, the building defers almost entirely to the topography.

The construction of layered Valser quartzite, quarried from the surrounding valley, forms a series of monolithic blocks, each supporting its own cantilevered concrete slab. The slabs stop just short of one another, and the glazed joints invite daylight as narrow, shifting apertures across stone and water. I find Zumthor’s treatment of the interstitial most instructive. The Japanese concept of ma describes the interval between as a condition with its own presence. At Vals, the corridors, thresholds and shadowed edges between volumes are resolved with the same rigor as the principal spaces, and they are just as essential to how the building is experienced.

The building’s exterior reads as quietly prioritizing the interior experience. Each room, with a palatte of warm water, cool stone and filtered light, is tuned for stillness. The architecture is introspective, enticing one into a deep and lasting calm. The building speaks our language and evokes the essence that we pursue at Alloi. Our design language slows the day, sharpens the senses and brings the people to peace.” — Marcos Santa Ana

Los Angeles, with its history of experimentation and modernism, is the foundation from which we grow our practice.

From Neutra's glass and steel to Schindler's spatial experiments and the case study houses that redefined how a city could connect with nature. LA has always been a place where design is reimagined.

We're proud to build here, adding to the composition of the city through an integrated architect-led design-build practice.
