Inspired by the California Delta and the stateโs natural icons, the zero-net energy, LEED Platinum certified building brings nature into the workplace through cascading terraces, native landscaping, natural materials, and connections to fresh air and daylight. Reclaimed wood from the Paradise Fire and hand-tooled rammed earth walls further ground the building in Californiaโs landscape and its environmental story.
Sustainability extends beyond the buildingโs environmental performance to the community it supports. Public open spaces, terraces, retail, and food service activate the surrounding neighborhood, while the headquarters unites 11 natural-resource organizations and 4,200 staff dedicated to protecting Californiaโs water, energy, land, wildlife, forests, and communities.
The project was delivered through design-build in partnership with Turner Construction Company for the California Department of General Services.
