I learned back in 2020 that Albert Frey’s lost Aluminaire House was to be moved from Pennsylvania (where it had been stored in a shipping container for a couple of decades) and reassembled at the Palm Springs Art Museum. Unfortunately for me this would happen after moving back to NorCal in 2022. I have only known of this house through a few old photographs from the 1930’s. I was excited to meet the mother of a new NorCal friend who lives in the neighborhood who is a docent at the PSAM. Ellen was kind enough not only to invite us to Oscar’s party at her home in Palm Springs, but also, on our way back up north to give us a little tour of the Aluminaire and some of its history. What a great visit with her and to finally see the architectural equivalent of an automotive Barn Find at its new home… thank you Ellen for your hospitality.

Remodel of a house located in Sonoma County & adjacent to the town of Kenwood in The Valley of The Moon. Cork plank flooring throughout, a nod to being located in the heart of Wine Country. The remodel included removal of partition wall between the living and kitchen areas as well as replacing all existing cabinetry. Thanks to Charlton Cabinets for making the trip to install over two phases from Southern California. More in bio above….

Been curious to return to Rhode Island to visit some of the small, and until more recently, rediscovered cemeteries that where enslaved people were buried many times without ceremony or grave markers. This particular site WY042 is located, strangely enough, in a newer residential neighborhood in the side-yard between two homes… I also found a dissertation on the slave trade in early Rhode Island and the link to the paper can be found here…

Well it hasn’t been easy building this time around with the building boom coming to Joshua Tree. Most of the difficulty due to the epidemic & people’s discovery of the out-of-doors. I always felt Joshua Tree was was a special place since first visiting 20 plus years ago.

The supply chain disruption & cost escalation that came along with it didn’t help either, but here we are…
rounding the last corner on our way to the finish line with a great end result thanks to the help of the many people who worked hard & contributed their experience and talents to seeing this project completed….I think the new owners will enjoy this special home in the desert and it’s my hope that some special memories are made here….congratulations all.
