Normally down in Phillip Island there’s a Penguin Parade, but today we got a brief Suzuki RGV250 VJ21 Parade while stuck in traffic with 4 in a span of 20 seconds!

Can’t wait to see the other cool bikes that are going to show up at the race…

I have arrived in Australia! Here’s a quick photo dump from the morning of Day 1 – flying into Melbourne to meet up with Iconic Motorbikes at his hotel and driving down to Phillip Island.

I’m always excited to check out the vehicles in a different country and I’m really digging the off-roaders and utes in Australia. Traffic is brutal getting into the track but it’s at least becoming a mobile bike show with all the motorcycles passing us.

Pretty appropriate that it’s Motorcycle Safety Awareness month here!

I’ve been sharing my Buell ownership experience on the Bike-urious website and a couple of weeks ago a reader sent me an email saying that he had some “tips and tricks” about the XB12 platform.

Even better, he specifically owned a XB12Ss (Lightning Long) just like me, and he impressively had over 87,000 miles on it so I figured he knew what he was talking about!

I’ll share his advice soon but in the meantime, super special thanks to William Mateer II for working around my schedule as I’ve been on the road a bit but he was able to meet me in the couple of days I was back in town after racing at Barber and before flying to Australia for MotoGP.

He doesn’t just have good taste in bikes, he’s got great taste in clothing - his shirt seemed very appropriate seeing that VyVy Nguyen are going to be in Cairns in just a few days!

Thanks again, Bill! Excited to implement what you suggested and keep putting miles on this thing!

I’ve been waiting for this weekend for months - I’m about to fly to Melbourne to meet Iconic Motorbikes and a bunch of great clients and friends for MotoGP at Phillip Island!

Was just sitting on Gobert’s bike last weekend and now I get to see the track as he dominated it…in a downpour.

We’ll make the best of it, and please let me know if you’ll be out there so we can meet up (and if you have recommendations).

Let’s go! Someday I hope to be able to ride this track for myself…

There were some amazing bikes racing at the “Reimagined” event at Willow Springs Raceway this weekend - which one is your favorite?

I have a soft spot for Thad Wolff’s Escargot Suzuki as that was the cover bike for my first ever feature story in Motorcyclist Magazine (RIP). But there were cool bikes all across the board and it was great to see them being ridden aggressively to entertain the crowd.

Again, great job by Racer Brady and Seth Trench to make this happen. Can’t wait to see it again next year!

What can I say, CHP loves my Buell!

I got stuck on the 405 for 25 dull minutes this weekend while heading up to Willow Springs with Iconic Motorbikes, thankfully I was able to give Adam and Tim a heads up so they could take a detour in the Iconic van thanks to the A-Connect headset in my Alpinestars US SR7 helmet.

Once the road was clear, the very nice officer drove up to me to give me her blessing to jump ahead. Not bad!

I’m leaving for Phillip Island soon but it looks like the weather this weekend is going to be just like my racing at Barber a week ago - full of rain!

Luckily the pros have plenty of experience with a wet race track. Here’s the start of my first ever race in the rain, the 700 Challenge with AHRMA. I tried to psych myself up for a confident start but after watching what happened in Turn 2 I was quickly brought back to reality and took it easy, coasting to a 5th place finish.

I’m glad I had the experience (and I ended up winning Sound of Singles 1 later that day plus placing in the Pro Challenge because lots of people sat out due to the weather) but I’m not sure I’d do it again...

Of course, my highlight from the “Reimagined” event at Willow Springs Raceway yesterday was the classic race bikes!

Kudos to Racer Brady and Seth Trench for putting on a fantastic event, hopefully Willow Springs sees the excitement that motorcycles bring to events like this and keeps having them come out.

When’s the last time you saw a Jaguar XJ220 in the wild?!

Matt Harris and I were at the Old Place yesterday after a ride and he commented there were some great British cars out in the morning (when we first arrived there was a beautiful Lotus Elan convertible parked out front) - right on cue our friend and Iconic Motorbikes client Ady showed up in this XJ220 and immediately stole the show!

Ady once came to our old shop and gave me a ride in his Porsche 959, he has an incredible collection (including the Kenny Roberts Jr Yamaha YZR500 Grand Prix bike that he bought from us at Iconic) and as you can see from the photos, he’s always open to sharing his cars and information!

It’s one of just 282 ever built and when it first came out in 1992 it was the fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 217 mph. So cool!

Had the pleasure of riding two very different twins today! The Bimota DB6 is going up for auction on Iconic Motorbikes on Tuesday and it’s VERY nice. Made me miss my Tesi 3D, which should finally be ready for me when I get back from Australia in a couple of weeks.

The BMW Motorrad USA R1100S is one of my personal bikes and that won’t be up for sale for a long, long time. Riding it this afternoon reminded me that I haven’t done an 𝐈𝐫𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐭𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧® (𝐈𝐁𝐀)© 1,000 mile in 24 hour ride in a couple of years…if anyone wants to join the club, let me know and I’ll organize a group ride in November!
