You'll work closely with our leadership team across financial processes, administrative operations, and organizational systems.

Pay Scale: $20.50–$24.50/hour

Chiles Enterprises is searching for a full-time Landscape Maintenance Technician to complete landscape maintenance tasks at the North Anna Power Station for Dominion Energy. This job includes cutting grass, string trimming, brush cutting, trimming trees, storm recovery, snow removal, pesticide application for w**d control, and other duties to maintain a neat appearance at the station and its associated areas. The candidate should feel comfortable working by themselves as well as with a team as both scenarios are probable.

You can't water your way out of heat stress.

When commercial turf starts browning in July, the first instinct is always to water more. Sometimes that helps. Sometimes it does nothing at all. It depends on which problem you're actually dealing with.

Drought stress is a water problem. The lawn is thirsty, so watering it genuinely helps. Heat stress is a different animal. When it gets hot enough, cool-season grass just shuts down, and no amount of water is going to change that. You can cool the soil off a little, but it wears off fast.

The catch is they look almost exactly the same. Knowing which one you've got is what keeps you from pouring water (and money) into a problem that water can't fix.

Some properties just need a reset.

When these beds came to us, they hadn’t been maintained in years. Plants were non-existent, and exposed landscaping fabric lined the entrance walls, which were slowly sinking backwaWhen these beds came to us, they hadn’t been maintained in years. Here's what we did:
✓ Removed and reset the sinking wall blocks on a proper gravel base
✓ Cleared the beds, installed fresh fabric, new plants, and mulch
✓ Selected shade-tolerant plants that will actually thrive for the brick entrance walls
✓ Reshaped beds for symmetry on either side of the staircase
✓ Returned an awkward bed back to grass
The home was beautiful. Now the landscape matches.

If part of your property is hard to maintain, that's a design problem — not a maintenance problem.

For a church in Charlottesville, the steep hillside next to the parking area was eating hours every mowing cycle. And still didn't look good when it was done.

The fix wasn't more maintenance. It was redesigning the space so it didn't need that level of maintenance in the first place.

These beds had seen better days.

Overgrown daylilies, stubborn dandelions, and other overgrowth quietly and consistently swallowed this bed over the years. The retaining walls had started to lean, and what was once an intentional landscape became an afterthought as time went on.

We cleared everything out, reset the blocks on a proper base, installed fabric, and replanted with a mix that fits the spot: a few roses, structured shrubs, and ornamental grasses for movement.

The bones of a landscape can be saved. They just need attention.
