WINTER IS COMING — Is your home ready?
Cold weather puts extra strain on your electrical system, heating equipment, and outdoor connections. A few quick checks now can save you from costly repairs later.

Here’s what to look for before the temps drop:

✅ Seal & protect outdoor outlets
Moisture + cold = tripped breakers and damage. Make sure your outdoor GFCI outlets have proper covers and aren’t cracked.

✅ Check space heaters & dedicated circuits
Space heaters can pull 1,500 watts — more than most outlets were ever meant for.
If your heater flips breakers, sparks, or warms the plug, it’s time for a dedicated line.

✅ Inspect extension cords & outdoor lights
Use weather-rated cords only. Indoor cords can freeze, crack, and become a fire hazard.

✅ Test your smoke & CO detectors
Heaters run nonstop in the winter. Make sure your detectors do too. Swap batteries or upgrade if they’re older than 7 years.

✅ Protect exposed wiring in basements & crawl spaces
Cold snaps can cause condensation, corrosion, and shorts. A quick inspection now prevents a nightmare later.

If you need help winterizing, upgrades, or safety checks—Yates Electric is here.

⚡️ Yates Electric Safety Tip — Space Heaters & Home Outlets ⚡️

As the cold sets in, it’s tempting to plug a space heater into any nearby outlet — but a normal household outlet was never meant to handle a heater AND other devices on the same line.

Most electric heaters pull around 12.5 amps on high, which nearly maxes out a 15-amp circuit all by itself.
Add in a TV, phone charger, lamp, gaming system, or anything else on that same circuit, and you’re looking at:

🔥 Overheated wiring

🚫 Tripped breakers

⚡ Real fire hazards

A space heater should always be on its own dedicated circuit — nothing else running with it.
If your breaker trips even once, that’s the circuit telling you it’s overloaded.

Stay Safe. Stay Smart.

⚡ Yates Electric – Safety Tip of the Day! ⚡
Did you know your outlets should never feel warm to the touch?
A warm or hot outlet can mean:
• Loose wiring
• Overloaded circuits
• A failing outlet
• A potential fire risk 🔥

If you notice ANY heat coming from an outlet, unplug the device and get it checked ASAP.

Your family’s safety is worth the call.

Holiday Safety Tip from Yates Electric! 🎄

Christmas lights make the season bright — but overloaded outlets and old extension cords can turn holiday cheer into holiday danger.

Before you plug in your light displays this year, remember:

✔ Use outdoor-rated extension cords for outdoor lights
✔ Never plug multiple high-power strands into one outlet
✔ Check for frayed wires or cracked bulbs
✔ Keep cords away from snow, water, and walkways
✔ Use GFCI-protected outlets for all outside decorations
✔ Put your lights on a timer so they don’t overheat overnight

A safe home is a merry home. ❤️🎄
If you need help checking outlets, upgrading circuits, or preparing your home for the holidays, we’ve got you covered!
