Polo Fields Down Spout Extensions- It is truly an honor to have a colleague refer a client to me. Scott Allen with Greenway Lawn and Landscaping referred his client to me. Scott is doing a landscape renovation and needed the downspouts extended to have the capability to add additional landscape beds. The project was not my typical drainage issues head scratcher, but a fun and rather simple project. Cutter Lawn Care- 254-2550 or [email protected]

Standing water dilemma- My client decided a mosquito farm would not be a strong business model and needed a little help to resolve the issue. Years of settlement and compacted clay created a natural bowl that held water in their driveway and near the water meter. The mowing company’s lawn mowers only made rutting worst. I took several elevation readings and discovered very little fall across the property, less than 2%. From the water meter to the neighbors driveway was only 1” of fall, but I’m still able to move water. Call Cutter Lawn Care at (502) 254-2550 for all your landscape / drainage needs!

Buckner Baseball Field- The infield was poorly built and had lousy drainage. During rain events home base would be 3” under water. Three triaxle loads of clay were brought in from out of state to build the field up. The pitching mound was crowned to allow water to shed to the baselines. I had to cut down 8” along the baselines to help drain the infield. There were lots of elevation shots taken along with removing and adding soil throughout the infield. The field is now a HOMERUN! Pewee Valley Landscape Project- My client loves her neighbor, but doesn’t love her view in her backyard. I was tasked to create a screen to hide an oversized barn. I brought in 20 yards of my topsoil and compost blend I make from leaves, wood chips and discarded soil from some of my other projects. A berm was created to give the already 8’ tall trees additional height and a perfect growing medium. The Robins were very interested in the worms present in the soil. We decided to use Green Giant Arborvitaes as an evergreen screen. They are fast growers and will quickly screen the barn and develop into a beautiful green and soft backdrop to the roses and hydrangeas. This was a fun project and my client will have a much better view of her backyard while sitting on her deck enjoying a glass of wine in the evening. Cutter Lawn Care- 254-2550 or [email protected]

This is an example of an “Open French Drain”. My client has lived in the home for a few years and had to take legal action against the builder for damages to her basement. She prevailed and the builder was found liable for repairs and damages. She then began the process of finding a contractor to correct the issues of water entering her basement. Two water proofing companies wanted to jack hammer up the basement floor and run everything to a sump pump and discharge out of the basement. The cost was nearly $10,000. She heard about my company from a fellow landscaper and asked for a second opinion. I stopped by and quickly identified numerous problems. One main issue was undersized gutters. The pitch of the roof is extremely steep and during hard rains water sheets off the roof through a valley like a waterfall! This was an extreme application and an Open French drain along with capturing water from the downspouts was the only solution. I’m happy to report, after numerous heavy rain falls during the past few weeks her basement is now dry. She had no need to contract with a basement water proofing company and have her basement torn up. She is ecstatic and now feels confident when she goes to sell her home there should be no issues in disclosing a pesky leaking basement. Cutter Lawn Care- 254-2550 or [email protected]

Glenview Landscape design and build - These are some of the most exciting projects. Challenges included: Half of the house is full to part shade the rest full sunlight. The soil was heavy compacted clay. Intense deer population that is hungry and curious.
We met these challenges by amending the soil with a compost/ sand blend. I designed the landscape with plants that can handle shade and full sun. I used proven deer tolerant plants. Bear in mind, deer are still curious creatures and will sample, but the plants have proven to survive several weeks of intense deer curiosity. My clients are thrilled and I enjoyed the challenges this project provided. Cutter Lawn Care -254-2550 or [email protected]

This project had a lot of challenges. The client was getting water in his basement via the basement window along the brick ledge. I’m not sure why the builder didn’t install a window well during construction, but that would have saved thousands of dollars and a lot less aggravation for my client. We battled tree roots and an irrigation system that had to be rebuilt. The home owner had another landscaper attempt the repair, but it failed. We removed his existing retaining blocks around basement window and excavated the area. We pressure washed the brick and sealed with a rubberized sealer. We then installed a customized galvanized window well and added a 12” drain tile. We re-graded the soil to slope to the drain and added river gravel. A swale was created along property line to help divert the neighbor’s runoff water. We tied into an existing left rear down spout 4" made of corrugated pipe at ac units with 4" SDR 35 solid pipe and captured two front downspouts at left of house with 4' SDR 35 solid pipe. The new system now discharges into the front lawn through a popup emitter. Cutter Lawn Care- 254-2550 or [email protected]

Lawn Paint…. Yes folks, it exists and is used on a lot of golf courses. Golf superintendents often paint their Bermuda grass fairways in lieu of over seeding in rye grass. My client has two large patches of Bermuda and decided they didn’t want to look at them all winter. It is too late in the season to seed in Rye and this was our best alternative. The color will fade some, but should last all winter long.
A funny story… About 15 years ago I was working on a commercial retention basin that the developer had a bond with MSD. In order for my client to receive their bond money back an inspection had to be made. The work was done in the spring and sod was layed and pinned to help take root. This basin was out of sight in a wooded area. We used long runs of fire hose to water the sod in prior to the inspection. Fast forward several months and my property manager calls me and asks how the basin looks. Mind you, we are now in the middle of a drought in August… I respond, “The only things alive in that basin are ant hills!” Well we have a problem; the inspector is coming by this week to check the basin. What can you do to get it to pass inspection? Short of removing all the dead sod, re-grading and laying new sod that looks horrible due to the drought, nothing… Then like a message for God, I remembered an old commercial. Some guy was painting his lawn in what looked like a desert. I told my property manager I may have a solution. I painted the dead sod, the inspector came by, and he approved the release of the bond and complimented the grass as, “The best looking grass in Louisville!” True story!!!

Major Landscape Cleanup Project- This client’s home has been neglected for many years and unfortunately he has been moved to an assisted living community. The family has their hands full and trusted me and my team to transform this home. The family is thrilled to see the home and they are making preparations to put it on the market after some other repairs have been made. Maybe a new landscape will be in the works next spring… Stay tuned!- Cutter Lawn Care- 254-2550 or [email protected]

Clogged Drain Pipes- Wow what a job! This was a tough one... This home was built in 1986. The drainage system was well thought out when it came to diverting water away for the home. A series of solid pipe was used rather than the less expensive corrugated pipe. Unfortunately things settle over time and and root systems take advantage of cracked or pulled apart pipes. Tree roots were growing up the down spouts 3 feet and into the old pipe. We pulled what we could and used a 4000 psi water jetter to clean the remaining roots. My team put in a lot of elbow grease to repair this drainage system and now it should last for many more years to come... Cutter Lawn Care- 254-2550 or [email protected]
