August 16 is National Backflow Day! Let's take time to recognize the importance of backflow prevention in protecting our water systems – and have a little fun.
We asked : Can you explain what a backflow preventer is using Dr. Seuss language? Here's what we got...
Oh, let me see if I can make it Seussical and grand,
And help you understand
the backflow preventer as planned!
It's a device that goes in a pipe that's been laid,
To make sure the water goes one way
and won't stray.
It stops the water from flowing in reverse,
Keeping clean water clean,
it's what we rehearse!
When there's a change in pressure, like a big leak,
The backflow preventer's there, so don't you freak!
It keeps dirty water from getting into the clean,
And prevents a whole lot of mess you've never seen.
So remember the backflow preventer's job,
To keep the water flow from being a snob.
It's important for health and safety, don't you know,
And now you understand it, off you go!
