HOW WE GET WAY UP THAT TREE

I specialize in spike-less climbing, because the trees pruned are going to be healthier when I’m done… not wounded by spike holes. We will not spike (Gaff or Spur) up your precious trees unless they are going to be removed. Be weary of a climber that insists on using spikes or gaffs as these undoubtedly injure the tree that they are working to make safer and healthier.

FORESIGHT

Often urban foresters are all too quick to tell you a beautiful tree “needs to be removed” in the interest of paying employee wages, salespeople and equipment loans. If it is practical to keep your trees while reducing the risk they pose to you and your property, we will explore options such as pruning to lighten the canopy of trees, removing dead limbs and cabling and/or bracing trees to decrease their chances of falling. ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

I have chosen to operate with less overhead (minimal staff) than the other companies, hence I will not send a salesman out to give you an estimate, rather, I will consult with you myself. When you are happy with my work, you will tell your friends. If the job is big, I will work with other highly qualified arborists to finish in a timely manner and still save you money because of my low overhead. SAFETY

For our safety and that of you, your guests and pets, we embrace strict safe work standards provided by OSHA and ANSI. I also carry full liability insurance.

Part 2 from our Kezar Lake project in Lovell.

In Part 1, I walked through the scope of work and some of the goals the new homeowners had for the property. In this video, I wanted to show more of the results.

One of my favorite parts of this project was helping reveal more of what was already there. The property had an incredible peninsula, beautiful mature trees, and some amazing shoreline frontage — it just needed a little thoughtful pruning, management, and walking accessibility to open things up and tie everything about the property together.

In this video, I walk through some of the areas where we selectively pruned trees to create better views of the lake and peninsula, and I take a tour of the winding paths we created down along the shoreline. The goal wasn't to dramatically change the landscape, but to make it easier to enjoy and explore.

Projects like this are always rewarding because the impact goes beyond tree health. It's about helping people connect with their property and get the most out of where they live.

And honestly, spending time working on Kezar Lake isn't a bad way to spend a week : )

Part 1 of a fun project we wrapped up recently on Kezar Lake.

In this video, I walk through the scope of work for some new homeowners who wanted to better understand their trees, improve the health of the property, and make the most of their beautiful waterfront setting.

The project included deadwooding a massive pine that had been struck by lightning years ago, assessing its overall structural condition, pruning surrounding trees, opening up a few key views of the peninsula, and creating some natural walking paths that wind down to the water's edge.

One of our favorite parts of this job was helping reveal what was already there and also making the property safer for the new homeowners to enjoy their time on the lake. Sometimes a few thoughtful improvements can completely change the way you experience a property.

Stay tuned for Part 2 to see more of the work in action!

Dead. Old. Gnarly.

You could tell from the outside that this tree had been around for a long time. The trunk was covered in knots, scars, and twists from decades of growth, weather, and who knows what else.

This removal was mostly about one long, deliberate cut with a few adjustments at the base until everything was lined up just right. Once it finally hit the ground, the underside didn't disappoint — revealing even more twisted grain and character.

Trees like this are always interesting. Every knot, bend, and scar tells part of the story, and this one had a lot of stories to tell.

A satisfying old tree to bring safely to the ground.

A few more frames from last week up at Severance Lodge (too good not to share!) from our good friend, Paul Kurnick.

This one had that classic Maine jobsite rhythm... quiet mornings, steady work, and a backdrop that almost makes you slow down whether you want to or not. Paul documented the crew moving through the property, catching those small, real moments in between the heavier lifts and cuts.

Nothing overly staged here — just the job as it actually looked: gear moving through the trees, decisions happening in real time, and a setting that does a lot of the storytelling on its own.

Always a good reminder that the environment is half the story on jobs like this.

A look back at one from last week... Tight space, trees right up on the house, and a crane that made all the difference.

This wasn’t a “big open yard” kind of removal. Everything was close — rooflines, siding, the whole situation. Instead of trying to piece it down in a tight footprint, we brought in the crane to lift sections cleanly out over the structure. It made a huge difference in keeping everything controlled and, most importantly, safe.

On the ground it was still all about patience with small, deliberate cuts, constant communication, and making sure every piece was ready before it ever left the tree. The crane does the heavy lifting, but the precision still comes from the crew dialing in each cut.

Ian captured it all, and he did a great job showing how much coordination goes into making a job like this look smooth.

Going up!

A few more behind-the-scenes moments from the Severance Lodge job.

Big picks, good crew, and another beautiful day to be up in the trees in western Maine.

Hey Everyone, Eli here. Another round of work from Severance Lodge in Lovell, Maine.

This one involved removing 5 ash trees, a maple, and one pretty rough-looking white pine. The tricky part was the retaining wall directly behind the work area — tight access and not a lot of room to work with.

Doing this the old fashioned way would not have been very fun, so we brought in the boom crane and took everything piece by piece. Some of the picks were over 4,000 lbs, so every cut and every lift had to be planned carefully.

Definitely a tight setup, but the crew made it happen!
