‼️⚠️SCAM ALERT⚠️‼️
The Lea County Sheriff's Office has been receiving several phone calls from the community concerning calls they are receiving from 575-235-7117, where the caller identifies themselves as Sgt. Kyle Blakely or Sgt. Jeremy Shimer and informs them that they have a warrant for their arrest.
The caller is very convincing and says to avoid arrest payment can be made. Do NOT provide payment information or purchase preloaded cards to send. Law enforcement will NOT call and ask for money to clear warrants or any civil or legal matters.
Do not become a victim of a scam. The scammer can “spoof”numbers and it will appear to be from the local sheriff’s office or agency, BUT it is not. If you ever have any questions please call us at 575-396-3611
As a reminder, if you receive unsolicited call claiming to be from your local law enforcement, here are some tips to help you prevent a SCAM:
🔴Law Enforcement will NOT call you requiring payment for fines and fees
🔴Government agencies (IRS, Social Security, Medicare) will NOT call you to verify your accounts.
🔴If they are aggressive and put an unrealistic time limit on you to pay. HANG UP!
