Winterizing and holiday checklists:
1. Make sure hoses are disconnected from hose bibs
2. If you don’t have frostproof hose bibs, make sure you shut the valve off that might be located with in a couple feet of the house bib. and drain if valve has a drain plug.
3.make sure you are able to locate and get to main water shut off valve for the house.
4. Check your dates on any filters that you are using “whole house, refrigerator” and change if needed.
5. Make sure sump pump is plugged in working, and accessible. Is your battery back up working? Do you have a battery back up?
6. Make sure gutters and downspouts are clean.
7. Make sure that gas meter is clear of debris and can access.
8. Make sure dryer vent is free of debris and work properly.
9. Make sure the top of an atmospheric water heater and lower vents are free of debris. And no visible leaks at the top or bottom.
10. Check furnace filter and change if needed.
11. For boilers, make sure it is free of debris around it. And gauges appear to be working. No leaks or water are visually prestent.
12. Make sure floor and wall vents are clear of debris
13. Makes sure registers and vents for hot water heat are open, and clear so the air can flow around them.
14. Septic. Make sure you are keeping up with tank pumping, maybe adding yeast or your favorite additive to help promote the growth of bacteria to help the break down of solids .
15. Have a local plumbers phone number on hand. And HVAC guys phone number on hand.
16. Those sewer that you know you have issues with every couple years, might want to think about the last time you had it rotor rooted and consider if you need it, especially with the holidays coming up. Or putting some approved city sewer root killer in it. 
17. Do you have a back water valve to help protect against city sewer back ups. Have you had it checked lately, make sure the debri is not suck in the unit, rubbers are good.
