When you’re planning a custom home, there are hundreds of decisions to make. And while they don’t all need to happen at once, they do need to happen in the right order.
Take this home, for example. The roof is on, the windows are installed, and the exterior is taking shape. But many of the decisions that determine how this home will function were made long before it reached this stage.
Want larger windows to capture a particular view? That needs to be considered during design, not after framing.
Dreaming of a vaulted ceiling? The roof structure needs to accommodate it.
Planning a fireplace, built-in cabinetry, or a specific furniture layout? Those choices can influence framing, electrical, HVAC, and other details.
And changing your mind isn’t always a problem. But the further construction progresses, the more complicated and expensive certain changes can become.
This is why we believe good project management starts long before construction.
A good builder helps you understand which decisions need your attention now, which ones can wait, and how today’s choices might affect tomorrow’s options.
You shouldn’t have to know the entire construction sequence before building your first custom home. That’s part of the expertise you’re hiring.
The goal isn’t to rush through decisions. It’s to make informed ones at the right time.
Save this if you’re considering building a custom home.
