🌨️Ice Dams🧊 – What Homeowners Should Know.
🌡️Cold temperatures, snow, and a warm home can lead to ice dams along roof edges. Snow melts on warmer areas of the roof, refreezes at the eaves, and traps water behind it, which can cause leaks and exterior damage.
Ice dams may lead to:
• Water backing up under shingles
• Interior leaks
• Gutter, fascia, and soffit damage
⚠️ Important to know:
Ice dams are a natural result of weather and temperature fluctuations and aren’t fully preventable during heavy snow and freeze/thaw cycles.
⛔️This type of roof leak is not caused by old age, poor installation, bad design, or roofing failure — it’s simply Mother Nature doing what she does best.
If you notice leaking or visible damage, it’s often helpful to have the roof inspected and documented before contacting your insurance agent. We can provide an inspection, documentation, and an estimate to help you decide whether an insurance claim makes sense based on your policy and deductible. In my experience we can often complete interior repairs caused by ice dams for less than most home insurance deductibles. The ice will metl and seldom damges the roofing components.
What homeowners can do (if safe):
• Watch for interior leaks
• Remove excess snow when possible
• Keep gutters clear
• Call a professional if damage is noticed
If you have concerns during or after the thaw, we’re happy to help with inspections, repairs, and documentation.
Stay safe and warm!
