With severe weather season upon us, schools may be considering making their facilities more resistant to local severe storms. BGR has worked with several local school districts within the past couple of years to incorporate actual tornado shelters into facility designs. For instance, BGR Architects designed a tornado shelter within a classroom wing of the recently completed North Elementary School for Dumas ISD, thus making their students safer during the spring/summer severe weather season. The Spring 2026 issue of Learning By Design’s Educational Facilities Design Awards Showcase honors Frenship ISD’s Memorial High School with an Outstanding Project Award. The competition’s jury comments included: “Demographic studies and community input guided the planning of this second high school, addressing equity concerns. The campus offers Career Tech programs, including vocational shops, culinary, health/nursing, floral design, and media production labs. Facilities include a competition gym, auxiliary gyms that double as tornado shelters, and dedicated performing arts spaces. A central commons supports collaboration, while an auto technologies lab strengthens workforce readiness, resulting in a practical, community-focused school.”

Post Independent School District was in need of replacing the artificial turf on their existing football field. The existing turf field, which was a part of an earlier BGR project for the District, had exceeded the end of it’s design life expectancy. Thus, the District once again reached out to BGR Architects to design the removal and replacement of the existing football field turf.

Roosevelt ISD is in the construction phase of a new dining hall and locker rooms to replace existing facilities. Recently, an Interior Design planning meeting was held with Roosevelt ISD representatives to cover the final details of the interior design for the new facilities.

South Plains College presented a “Monte Carlo Evening” in support of the SPC Foundation, which has budgeted to award $1,400,000 in student scholarships this academic year. BGR was delighted to be a sponsor of the evening and enjoyed partaking of the fun.
