Due to the recent "poor" installations of flooring, I will be posting problems with different types of flooring. I have over 35 years experience in the flooring industry and vast knowledge of installation procedures. Yesterday, I went to a new customers house to give the customer a bid on his current flooring that was not finished. The first problem was not enough thinset (adhesive) was used underneath the floor tile. The previous contractor used 1/4" notched trowel, thus not having enough mortar to sustain the weight of the tile, we use a 3/8" or 1/2" trowel depending on the slab. The other problem was the contractor used a 1/16" grout joint. We prefer to use a minimum of 1/8" so you have some room to be absorbed into the joint, in case the tile is slightly off size. Please ask questions when you are having a new floor installed. We always present foreseeable problems to our customers. Give us a call for a free estimate.
