After climbing hundreds of roofs since last Thursday June 5th here is a little more advice on what we are seeing as far as damage and good plan of action for your repairs! I cannot stress enough do not fall victim to pushy door to door salesman claiming the end is coming soon! This damage is significant on the north and west slopes of most roofs we've looked at and minor on the south and east slopes. Skylights and windows on those sides of the house have fallen victim! That still does not mandate that you call your insurance company and file a claim believing you cannot have those things repaired without an adjuster there first... With several weeks of June left and every cloud that comes up having The potential for more damage we recommend letting us assess the damage for you and help you in getting obvious repairs completed. Those being your windows skylights which are really the top concern of most of our customers we have visited with so far. A picture of the broken window and a receipt for the repairs will be very appreciated by your adjuster from your insurance company when you actually file the claim and have an adjuster show up which shouldn't be until after the 4th of July at a minimum! Most insurance companies allow one year from the date of loss to file the claim and in some instances even more time for the repairs to be completed! Most of the zip codes that we're looking at for damage have been dealing with this pretty steady over the last 16 years having dates of loss in 2009 2012 2018 2023 now again in 2025 it just doesn't make any sense to rush out and put on a new roof and most certainly not rushing out to file the claim! Every home is different every claim is different but for the most part getting those windows repaired and skylights repaired is really what needs to be happening right now not entire roof systems pulled off and replaced immediately following this damage it is significant damage but it is not critical damage it doesn't need to be removed and replaced immediately any door-to-door salesman claiming that is only looking out for their commission-based income! Extremely thankful the tornado did not make its way into the city of Lubbock.... We realize from the call volume there is damage after tonight's storm we are ready to come and help please call our office 806-763-8500. After inspecting so many roofs from recent hail storms I wanted to offer a couple of tips to homeowners dealing with the decision of filing an insurance claim. Patience patience patience! Please call Hartman Roofing and have us come inspect the roof before you file the claim our sales staff has decades of experience and probably nine out of 10 that we look at need to hold off even filing the claim. Insurance companies are dealing with hundreds of calls during and right after a hail storm insurance agents and companies pride themselves on service and you can expect to hear from someone and the claims adjuster will show up pretty quick... Which in some cases is just not necessary we find a lot of homeowners would prefer to wait later in the year to install the roof or possibly even postpone the process until the next spring ... And that's the smart thing to do we always say do your homework before you hire a contractor and most contractors soliciting at your door are interested in making money and they don't make any money until you actually let them tear your roof off and replace it! So don't be rushed by door to door salesman insinuating you are in dire need of re-roofing the house immediately call Hartman Roofing we will inspect the roof for free and give you great guidance on when to file the claim and best plan of action! Typically we do not recommend filing an insurance claim on hail damage from spring storms until after the 4th of July and most times we would like to see folks file the claim about 30 days before they would actually like to have the work done. So if you'd like to roof your home in September I would file the claim in August and so forth. Remember to please choose your roofing contractor by doing your homework and not by who knocks on your door first offering to cover your deductible. Please remember offering things like sign allowances are illegal and can get you involved in insurance fraud.
