Our Story

As 2018 starts, I wanted to write how this unique business came to be. Goats have always been special to me because of there friendly, playful personalities. As a child I was always involved with animals including working at the local horse farm at the young age of 11 years old. When it was time to go to college, I knew that I wanted to be a Veterinary Technician. Being a Vet Tech has been very fulfilling over the years, but something sparked an interest in me when we got our first goats. My husband and I fell in love with them instantly because they are very social and enjoy life. We would find ourselves going through my property and cutting branches of pine trees to feed them. They would be so excited about getting something special. Then would let them out of their fence to roam and eat their favorite weeds. I would watch them and study their eating habits and find out what their favorite weeds were. I feel like goats should not be stuck in a fenced in area and not have the ability to forage. They are happiest when they can roam from plant to plant and eat all day.

The idea of starting this business is when my son got covered in a rash hours after walking home from school. I asked him if got into anything on the way home. He said that he was pulling leaves off a plant and was throwing them around. We went back to the spot where the incident happened and identified the plant as Poison Oak. It just made me realize that these invasive plants are everywhere and they seem to get worse every year. The invasive plants have the ability to engulf a tree and suffocate it. Most people have invasive plants that are taking over their landscape and do not have a safe way of removing them. So therefore they spray them with chemicals but do not realize that they are causing damage to the enviroment. We how perfect would that be if I could share my goats and help people mitigate those annoying weeds. So we purchased electric netting and trained them on our property. I have never seen such happy animals, running, playing, foraging and ruminating.

We started the business in May of 2016 with 4 goats that we rented. The first year was a learning curve just like any new business but the biggest part was the people. It is a Win Win with every property. Goats are happy because they are eating all day and night and the homeowner can finally get there property back in shape. How exciting to have farm animals on your property that you normally would not have. The hardest part about moving from property to property is when I pick them up. By the time I pick up the goats, the homeowner knows all their names and personalities and are sad to see them go. As we enter the beginning of our 3rd season, I am very excited to see the green start to grow because the winters can be long and I just want the goats to make an impact on the environment and continue to help property owners.
