After thinking at least three days this week we’re Mondays, I finally made it to Friday and at least got to end on a good note! Knocked this out today and got all my steps in. Nothing like tiling a second story bathroom while your tile saw is outside on the ground level 😅

Construction is not rocket science by any means, but I’m amazed at what homeowners often get stuck with. Every hole we’ve dug in a basement has gotten inspected before pouring concrete , however, do you think the Inspector peers under to see if there’s dirt caked to the bottom of the bricks ? Negative. Concrete gets poured and no one would be the wiser till years down the road when you start getting cracks in the grout lines .

I recently heard where this happened in a major project nearby . It wasn’t till the brick was getting reworked that they discovered mud between the brick and concrete. Had to do it all over again, and I’m not sure who’s dime that was on.

Skipping steps always leads to more work down the road. Inspectors only care so much. What have you seen recently?

Been flying solo for a while but today I tagged teamed it. we knocked this out so quick! it sure is nice working with an experienced tradesman. Working with on an old church building Campbell county VA is fixing up. Back to the shop for josh’s magic touch with reglazing and then we’ll be back to install.

Pulled the last piece of bracing off this structural brick wall the other day and it felt good! Here’s a little before and after and some of the process. Following the engineers shoring plan, the masons rebuild one 2’ section at a time after we poured the new footer. This was the only wall that had large roots coming through the base, and is the reason it was bowed so badly. This home had no traditional footer and sat directly on undisturbed Clay. while most the house didn’t have an issue, this wall had been undermined by water, seepage and roots from a nearby tree. Finally good to go again and ready to move things along!

Celebrating Katelyn completing 6mo of chemo today. Can’t believe it’s been just over a year since we first got the news she had cancer. Life turned upside down for a while, but we’re still pulling together and things have been much brighter lately. We have so much love for all the support from friends/family during this time. Mowed grass, meals, loving on our kids, house cleaned, rides to UVA, dump trailers hauled, concrete poured, private airplane flight to the beach, support from afar… the list goes on of the blessings we’ve received from y’all. You know who you are. Things are looking up- we will still be going back and forth for scans etc, but this is worth celebrating today. Thanks for being there for us, I’ve teared up many times thinking about the support y’all have been. I hope we can be there for you if you need it. 🥂
