Macktown Construction Group Macktown Construction Group: The Stateline's leading full service, design-build remodeling contractor
(1)

Macktown Construction Group is a small, family-owned commercial and residential remodeling company located in Machesney Park IL. They currently serve clients in Winnebago County, Boone County, Rock County, and Walworth County. In 2005, Tony began his own construction business that provided unmatched quality, with the highest level of personal service. In October of 2015, Tony merged his successful

business with another respective company in the region. Friends for years, they saw that bringing their companies together would allow them to fill a need that the community had been clamoring for. Macktown Construction Group has developed their reputation for a combined 60+ years by producing superior renovations and residential remodels, and are well-known for their quality of design, carpentry, and delivering a level of personal service not otherwise available in the region. Tony eventually became sole owner and by 2022, Macktown Construction Group became a full, family-owned business where Tony’s wife and children also play an integral role in the business. Cassie, Tony’s wife, manages the finances and operations within the office. Taylor, their daughter, manages social media and assists in the marketing of the brand and company. Jacob, their son, is a Jack of all trades and helps in the field, and captures photos and videos of projects and homes for marketing and advertising. Being an electrician by trade through the United States Navy, and union electrician after his years of service in the military, Tony had always dreamed of starting his own business. From a small office in the corner of his home to having a design center of his own (Cedar & Stone Cabinetry and Flooring), Tony has brought his dream into reality. The family doesn’t just stop with their own business, but their focus is on their community and other small businesses in the area too. Macktown Construction Group tries to always use trade partners who are also small, family-owned businesses. They also do what they can to support other local businesses in the area whether it be grabbing a pizza at Sam’s, deli meat from Pinnon's, a coffee at Wired Cafe, a drink at Rockton Inn Pub Grub & BBQ, or doing holiday giveaways for gift cards to local businesses.

You found the contractor, signed the paperwork, and you are finally doing this.

Then your phone rings. It's your contractor, and he needs your tile selection by Friday because demo starts Monday. If you do not choose the flooring today, they will have to push the schedule.

Nobody told you this part was coming.

When construction starts before the design is finished, you are not remodeling anymore... you are reacting. Every selection gets made under pressure, and every decision gets made without the full picture. Somewhere between the showroom and the job site, the home you planned becomes the home you settled for.

It does not have to work that way.

We lock in every material, every finish, and every real cost before a single wall comes down. So by the time demo day arrives, you are not scrambling. You already know exactly what your home is going to look like because you already chose it.

No Friday phone calls, no pressure decisions, and no gap between what you envisioned and what gets built.

That is design-first remodeling.

Where do the kids eat breakfast before school? How do you make coffee when the kitchen is torn apart? Are you living off takeout for months?

That is what is underneath the timeline question. And it is a fair one.

For most Rockford homeowners, active construction runs somewhere between 8 and 16 weeks. Where your project falls in that range depends on scope, whether there are structural changes involved, permit timelines, and how an older home responds once walls come down. There is not a single number that applies to every kitchen.

But here is what we have seen over and over: the remodels that feel the smoothest are rarely the shortest ones. They are the ones where homeowners understood what was happening at every stage before construction ever started. When you know why a certain week is slower, or what the crew is doing behind the walls before the cabinets go in, the disruption feels manageable. It is the uncertainty that wears people down, not the construction itself.

That is why we walk through the full project timeline with homeowners before anything begins. Not a vague range. A real picture of what each phase involves, what could affect it, and what your family should plan for along the way.

Someone is making dinner. Everyone else is in the next room. You can hear them but you cannot see them. Guests are hovering near the doorway because that is the only way to feel part of the conversation. The kids have disappeared somewhere and you are not entirely sure where.

You're realizing the house is no longer designed for the way your family lives.

That feeling is one of the most common things we hear from homeowners considering a kitchen remodel. Not that they hate the kitchen. Not that they want something trendy. Just that the kitchen keeps them separated from the people they want to be around while they are in it.

Sometimes the fix is bigger than expected. Sometimes it is a single opening that changes everything. But it almost always starts with the same question: what do you want to feel differently when you are standing in that kitchen?

That answer shapes everything else.

If your kitchen has been feeling more like a room you cook in and less like a place your family actually gathers, it might be worth a conversation.

Here is something we have noticed after working in a lot of older Rockford homes: the best kitchen remodels are often the ones where you walk in and wonder why it was not always that way.

A doorway moves three feet and the path to the dining room finally makes sense. An opening gets wider and the kitchen stops feeling isolated. A wall comes down, but a ceiling detail or piece of millwork keeps the rooms feeling distinct. The changes are not always dramatic. They are just right.

Opening a closed off kitchen in an older home is not really about tearing things out. It is about understanding what the house needs, what the wall is doing structurally, what character details are worth carrying into the new design, and what your family actually needs the space to feel like.

We wrote about all of it on the blog, including the practical side of older home construction that can surprise you if you are not planning for it. Worth a read before you start pulling up Pinterest boards. Link in bio.

This kitchen wasn’t giving these homeowners the functionality or efficiency they needed, especially as passionate cooks who love to entertain. The existing layout made it difficult to create a natural workflow, and the space felt closed in rather than inviting.

We reimagined the kitchen with a design that works as beautifully as it looks:

• Custom CWP cabinetry for thoughtful storage and functionality
• Elegant Vadara Sereno Gold countertops
• A statement Visual Comfort chandelier
• Under-cabinet lighting to brighten the workspace
• Premium Blanco sink and faucet
• A layout designed around better flow and everyday efficiency

The result? A chef-friendly kitchen with timeless style, improved functionality, and a space that’s ready for everything from everyday meals to entertaining.

Because a successful kitchen remodel isn’t just about making the space look better... it’s about making the way you live in it better, too ❤️
