Expanding a business isn't easy. It's not just another truck, but a trailer, mowers, trimmers, blowers. While we use electric as much as possible we sometimes need to fall back on equipment that we already have in order to equip two full mowing rigs, which means we have to use the old Gravely gas stand on mower.

It's noisy, smelly and costs more to operate than all of the rest of the equipment combined (the truck, too). It has been reliable for us, though, so credit where it's due.

However, we hope to replace it soon!

We fell a little bit behind last week (mostly Monona) due to me hurting my back 🙃

We are getting back on track today. Everyone should be squared away soon!

Thank you!

Normally we don't push folks to water their lawns, but after the wildfire smoke it's not a terrible idea. It can help clear any residual soot/ash that might be limiting photosynthesis and it will help out with the dry conditions, too. A solid half hour of watering a couple of times a week is plenty in most cases.

Grass will go dormant in the peak of summer, but after a point it can risk harming the soil. If things get too dry the ground will become hydrophobic, which means smaller rainfall will just end up washing over it and going right into the sewers.

The best thing to do is to plant plenty of native plants around your property. The deep root systems will store water for these elongated droughts and the benefits will extend to your turf as well.

I've officially expanded the electric fleet!

Five years ago I started this business with an Ego push mower and a minivan. I didn't even have a leaf blower. Now we've got two fully electric trucks and a small fleet of electric mowers 😎

The new truck is a Silverado EV 4WT, max range, with 450 miles of range on a single charge⚡

Thank you to all of my family (esp my wife), friends and clients who have supported me throughout this journey!

We've got a little news for everyone today:

Last Monday (Memorial Day) our garage caught fire!

The exact cause is unknown, but there were a few possibilities. The end result is that our garage is toast along with almost everything in it. The good news is that no one was hurt and the main house is fine (the garage is detached).

The truck and trailer are unscathed, as they were in the driveway. My EV charger got fried, though, so it's keeping all the equipment charged has been a little tricky. I hope to have that resolved very soon, however.

Because of this it's possible that we may have skipped some lawns, or put them off a few days. On top of mowing we're also handling the cleanup ourselves, so it's been a crazy week! We really appreciate everyone's patience and support. We will be back to 100% very soon 💚

One of my favorite things about the Lightning is the frunk, and the four power outlets inside of it. Sawzalls, blades, extra batteries, an air compressor, impact wrench, socket set, work gloves, extension cords and a whole bunch of hand tools come in handy nearly every day.

We've stopped doing No Mow May, and this post from Prairie Up explains it better than we ever could.

Turf grass is hard to beat if you need walkable areas. The better thing to do is to designate areas that you want pollinator plants to be, and then have turf in for the rest. Having native plants in your yard will help your soil/turf retain water. Turf where you need it and native everywhere else 🪻

Here's a little sneak peek into the trailer that powers our lawn operations day to day⚡️

The truck, an F-150 Lightning, has a 240v/30 amp outlet in the bed. I installed a receptacle on the front of the trailer, which then powers a sub panel on the inside.

From there we just plug in what we need. The Ego batteries will charge throughout the day, and everything can charge overnight while the truck is plugged in :)
