This stately 1895 home on Brattle Street in Cambridge underwent a complete transformation. Architect Charles Myer and Partners tackled one of the original design’s biggest shortcomings: a kitchen tucked away on the north side, dim and closed off from the rest of the house. Their solution was to relocate the kitchen to the sunlit south side and remove a section of the floor above it, opening the space into a dramatic double-height room filled with light.

We transformed the back half of this rambling Victorian near Harvard Divinity School, opening up the kitchen to the backyard with a new addition and an inviting porch that leads down to the garden. Inside, a coffered ceiling and custom cabinetry bring warmth to the space, while a standing-seam copper roof and sleek pipe-and-metal-grid deck railing add character outside.
