Aster Yellows is a phytoplasm disease of over 300 plant species. This week our team identified Yellows in Twig Dogwood and Butterfly Bush. This bacterial disease will distort and ultimately kill the plant. This is the first time we have seen this in ornamental plants in our area. We are going to attempt sanitation pruning and treatment to see if the plants can be saved.

Shothole disease is a bacterial/fungal complex that affects Laurels and flowering Cherry. Timing is important to treat effectively. Disease can be an eyesore but does not have a negative effect long term.

On juniper, cedar, cypress, falsecypress, and cryptomeria, Juniper Scale can be a major problem, especially on sunny or artificially heated sides of trees (like facing light-colored siding).
This excessive feeding of this insect will leave browning of individual leaf tips and stunting of leaf growth.
