Grateful to catch this unrelated issue before it escalated into something more serious while troubleshooting a heater problem for a client. Loose electrical connections create excessive heat, as evidenced by the melting insulation on kitchen outlet wiring seen here. It's a good idea to use the opportunity to be inside a panel to go ahead and snug all breaker connections as a preventative maintenance step. However, always follow electrical safety precautions and ensure the power is off at the terminals before working on them.

Wi-fi Ice-Melt system controllers allow our clients to turn their heating systems On or Off from anywhere in the world, to prepare for storms or save energy ($$$) when not needed. We use a similar setup for water heaters, electric ranges and other large loads for clients who want the peace of mind and/or energy savings.

Such a sad tragedy. Please be careful with any type of electric heater. They are so common in our area. Definitely make sure that there is proper clearance to combustible materials (typically at least three feet) and do not use conventional extension cords, especially consumer-grade ones because the wiring is too small for almost any portable space heater. And, if a circuit breaker or fuse is tripping when you plug it into an outlet, chances are that circuit is overloaded and you need to plug it in somewhere else. And for those "fixed-in-place" models, make sure that they are being fed with properly sized wiring, properly sized circuit breakers and if applicable, a thermostat rated for the wattage and voltage of the heater in question. We have seen many close calls here over the years from deficiencies with all of the afore-mentioned items. Be safe!
