Walkway Wednesday...in the WINTER! We are ALL dreaming ahead of enjoying our outdoor spaces. This client has often contracted with us in the winter to repair and upgrade their property. TKM removed the old broken walkway, addressed drainage, designed and installed a lovely new patio and also two walkways. We would love to help you get ahead of the spring rush with your project!

Happy Father’s Day weekend! Dads, we hope you feel loved, honored and celebrated 💪🏼 This weekend should be full of all the things dads love - golf, cheesy jokes, not-so-trendy fashion. And for all you grill-master dads out there, we thought we would share a little built-in grill inspiration 🌭🍔 from one of our projects to help you envision what’s possible in your space.

Our team designed and installed a flagstone patio for this home in North Arlington. The homeowner wanted to add a built-in grill, but the best placement was against a boring vinyl siding wall. We extended our stone veneer to cover this entire wall to not only enhance the aesthetics, but also, and more importantly, to make the back wall non-combustible. Then we repeated the use of the same stone detail for a seatwall around a portion of the patio, and for the vertical risers of their steps leading from the patio down to their backyard to tie it all together.

You can bet Dad will be grilling up some goodness with his family in this beautiful outdoor space this weekend 👨‍🍳😍

Time for another Walkway Wednesday! 🧱This hilltop home in Potomac, Maryland had a very narrow, straight walkway that was not visible from the street. People visiting the house, who had to park on the street, had no choice but to walk up the very steep driveway to get to the small front walkway.

We designed a gracious 5 foot wide, curved walkway using mortared Pennsylvania patterned flagstone. We only allowed 3 steps together with deep landings between steps runs, creating a very comfortable space to navigate up a steep hill. Not only did this design and installation solve practical problems for the homeowners, it also created major curb appeal for this home 🤩 Isn’t she lovely?!

For this week’s Walkway Wednesday, here’s a look at the preliminary design all the way through construction-ready plans created by our in-house design team, which were used to bring this project to life. These plans not only help our clients be able to visualize the space and give input to the design, but also help our crews install our projects with meticulousness and excellence. For today’s Walkway Wednesday, some progress on the new porch portion of this front entry in Vienna! We are installing thermal finished all blue stone for the front walkway and two porches. We LOVE 😍 natural stone! For the perimeter border and step tread, we selected 2 inch thick thermal finished stones in a large format.

Why?

These large pieces are stronger and more attractive than generic stones. They also allow for fewer mortar joints, which means a more durable surface. Our crew worked with the owner to custom cut the stones and position each joint so it looked ✨just right✨ rather than slapping the stones on the way they came. It’s the little details in both design and build that make our projects stand out above the rest in aesthetic, functionality, and durability. How can we bring our expertise to your project? 🏠
