Not our usual type of post.... but we have to give a big shout out to our friends over at Allied Septic & Drain for dropping off a brand new portable toilet this morning. Behind every portable toilet is a person who manages it. For us, that person is Dave. Every week he comes (often with his adorable son in tow) to clean out the toilet and keep it fresh for all of our amazing customers. 🚨 SEPTIC MYTH SPECIAL EDITION 🚨

“My septic tank only needs one cover opened to be pumped.”

❌ Not always true.

We responded to an emergency backup call today where the customer’s septic system had been replaced about 5 years ago with a two-chamber septic tank equipped with an outlet filter.

The customer mentioned the tank had been pumped roughly a year ago… but something still wasn’t adding up. 🤔

After locating and opening ALL the tank covers, we found:
💩 The main chamber was completely full to the brim
💧 The outlet side looked more like what we’d expect from a tank pumped a year ago

The issue?
Only the outlet chamber had been pumped previously, while the main chamber — where the solids actually collect — was left full.

That’s a little like vacuuming only one side of your living room and wondering why the house still looks messy. 😅

To make matters worse, the inlet became plugged due to the backup. After some elbow grease, a hydro jetter, and a freshly cleaned septic filter, we had the customer back up and running properly again. 👊

✅ Septic systems are NOT all built the same
✅ Some tanks have multiple chambers
✅ Some have filters that require cleaning
✅ Proper access and documentation matters
