That mulch "volcano" around your tree is killing it.

We see this on almost every property we assess in Southwest Florida - mulch piled high against tree trunks like a volcano. Looks neat and tidy. Kills the tree.

Here's what happens:

Mulch against the trunk traps moisture. In SWFL's humidity, that constant moisture causes the bark to rot. Rot invites insects and disease. Within 2-3 years, the tree starts declining. By the time you notice, the damage is often irreversible.

The tree you paid $500-2,000 to install? Dead because of $20 worth of mulch applied wrong.

How to fix it:

WRONG: Mulch piled against trunk (volcano shape)
RIGHT: Mulch pulled back 3-6 inches from trunk (donut shape)

Mulch should be 2-3 inches deep maximum - not 6-8 inches piled high. Keep it away from the trunk. The tree will thank you by actually surviving.

Walk your property today. If you see mulch touching tree trunks, pull it back. Takes 5 minutes and saves thousands in tree replacement costs.
