ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR GOURD? Seriously--I want to know where that expression came from! Funny--but that was not the feeling I had when I saw this fruit (yes--I looked it up--its a fruit) sitting on my neighbors curb and was drawn to it (pun intended) and had to use it as my next subject. I'm fascinated by all the bumps and crevices--nature truly is inspiring. In the end, I'm proud of this one as a challenging example of how light affects a subject and surface texture changes what we see and how we see it. Hope you like it as much as I enjoyed drawing it!

Ever looked up close at a sand dollar? They are the most incredible creatures. When alive, they're actually covered in tiny dark purple cilia, giving them a fuzzy appearance. Last year I found many of them washed up on the beach at low tide and was fascinated by the unique nature and appearance of each one.
