is a well-established and growing general contractor with a commitment to its clients and the environment. (WMCI) drew its roots from Dr. J.D. Walters, the first Professor of Architecture at Kansas State University in 1877. His son started Walters Sand Company in 1925 and then broadened into the municipal construction field in 1938 with the formation of WMCI. The companies were combined as a mater
ial supplier and builder until 1947, when WMCI began specializing in construction services exclusively. The company continues to concentrate its efforts in the wastewater and water treatment field to this day. The company has constructed civil and environmental projects in nearly every county in Kansas along with many projects in Oklahoma, Iowa, and Nebraska. Many of the first municipal water or wastewater central systems were built by WMCI. The largest undertaking built to date is the Wastewater Treatment Plant for the City of Manhattan, Kansas at a value of $23.6 million. Current projects include the Lower Bird Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Spring River Water Treatment Facility near Columbus, Kansas, and the Deer Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The management team at WMCI includes civil and construction engineers for leaders of its projects. At the job level, supervision comes from experienced construction personnel well versed in the complexities of treatment plant processes. Lead roles on WMCI projects are held by long time company team members. As an established and growing NE Kansas based General Contractor, WMCI is committed to the future of our community. Our projects reflect this commitment to community pride and satisfaction. What makes the company unique is its project-delivery flexibility: design-bid—build, design-build, cost-plus, and negotiation. Clients choose the alternative best for them.
