Work Environment:
The normal work environment will be in an industrial facility where exposure to outdoor weather conditions is possible and where proper PPE is required for a variety of potential hazards.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The roles and responsibilities of a Laborer may include but are not limited to the following items.
Complete assigned tasks with safety and quality in a timely manner.
Housekeeping of job site.
Work within Manhattan Mechanical Services and client policies and procedures.
Demonstrates proper use and care of tools and equipment.
Confined Space Attendant.
Fire Watch.
Supplied Air Attendant.
Completion of JSA’s.
Fully participate in the health, safety, quality and environmental processes.
Is an ambassador for Manhattan Mechanical Services to the client, other contractors and the public.
Qualification Guidelines:
Experience:
Experience in industrial facilities
Skills:
All Duties of a B Laborer plus:
Use of a tape measure
Set up and connect welding leads and air hoses
Proper set up and connect of oxygen-acetylene burning outfit
Use of mop, shovel, broom, etc.
Tape coating underground pipe
Anti-seize bolts
Installation and removal of isolation devices (blinding, LOTO, etc.)
Use of tag line to unload pipe and equipment
Basic knowledge of pipe and exchanger insulation
Basic math
Basic hand and power tool knowledge
Basic grouting skills
Basic carpentry skills
Basic knowledge of construction terminology
Read and understand the use of permits, work authorizations, JSA’s, and
associated procedures
Ability to effectively receive and communicate verbal directions from
supervisors, clients, managers and other employees
Complete appropriate Manhattan Mechanical Services skills assessment test(s).
Hazmat and Environmental Services:
Barrel management
Recycle pick ups
Dewatering:
Move and set up pumps
Bauer Piping install, remove and modify
Fencing repairs, installation and removal
Fin Fan Cleaning:
Install plastic, sheet metal and wood planking where needed.
Minor concrete work
Operate/run/fuel equipment:
Light plants
Small compressors
Pumps
Installation of “adams” clamps both under and above ground
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent
Able to attend continued training applicable to job as deemed necessary by
Manhattan Mechanical Services.
Able to certify as a Confined Space Attendant, Supplied Air Overseer, Fire
Watch and Supplied Air Attendant, if required
Meet the requirements of the CONTRENDS Core Curriculum.
Must have valid driver’s license or other government issued identification.
Physical:
Must comply with Manhattan Mechanical Services drug and alcohol policy.
Able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, as required by
Manhattan Mechanical Services.
Must be able to climb ladders and stairways.
Must be able to carry 50 lbs. of tools and/or materials.
Must be able to work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.)
Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
Safety/Environmental:
Must be able to pass applicable site-specific training. Knowledge of refinery and chemical plant hazards which may require special precautions and PPE, such as Sulfuric, H2S and HF.
Must undertake the appropriate safety/environmental training commensurate with the position and location. CPR and 1st Aid Trained, when required. Must be able to read and understand safety instructions, signs, labels and permits in English.
