SMALL SPACE, BIG FIRST IMPRESSION.
A client was frustrated with their tiny closet for a number of reasons. The most obvious were exposure and location. When they walked through their front door, they were immediately looking at a shelf, a bar, and a pile of shoes (top to bottom). There wasn't room for a door on the closet, yet a curtain over that space would offer no help to its' contents (other than concealing). When you have a basic closet, its just a space to put things, but doesn’t offer a PLACE to put everything. That’s where our experience with custom carpentry comes in.
This client pulled, from the internet, project photos of layouts and elements they love and gave us a list of needs and desires. We were able to get measurements, marry the ideas we were given, and customize this organizational piece to fit all their hopes in the new space.
The goals of this custom project were to:
Make the first thing seen in the home not only attractive, but a mood setting piece that says “Welcome, Everything has a place here.”
Match the look of the closet to the rest of this organized but easy-going beach home.
Build the unit in place to look more custom original and less like a retrofit kit.
Provide a place to take off shoes without encouraging standing like a flamingo by a door.
Allow for small collections of things to have a concealed storage place in plain view.
Customize a shoe rack under the bench for everything from flip flops to boots.
Eliminate the coat bar, as they have less coats than things to store. Add hooks instead.
Maximize functionality of the space.
