Folks …

If you have your HVAC system upgraded or modified in any way please make sure that part of your package with the HVAC contractor you choose consists of a licensed electrician to come out and verify the wiring parameters the new system needs. Or please consult one yourself if it is not included with the package!! It is super important that this is NOT overlooked and verified that the existing supply wiring is capable of handling the new unit, if it is not it needs to be upgraded…. Not doing so the result can be catastrophic even leading to total loss of your home 🏠 ⛔️ 🔥

Rise Electrical received an after hours service call late on Monday night with the client stating they had no heat and no power to there HVAC system. Outside temperatures were in the teens and the roads were covered in ice and the inside temperature of there home falling fast. A very unpleasant situation to be in with horrible weather conditions. When we arrived this is what we discovered!! ( see picture 👇)…. Not to mention this was inside the air handler closet in the hallway on the second floor about 1’ down from the attic ceiling with only a 1/2” piece of Sheetrock between this meltdown and an ocean of insulation!!!!

After investigating and what was discovered is that the home was originally built with a 4 TON heat pump. Supply wiring of #6 AWG protected by a 60 amp circuit breaker. Perfectly fine for that unit!! About 1 year ago the system was upgraded to a 5 TON unit with an additional 30 amp auxiliary heating strip pushing the necessary supply circuit to a whopping 90 amps 😱…. Unfortunately the circuit was not upgraded with the unit and was undersized severely. Inclement conditions happened and forced the unit into overdrive and

This client is very lucky to say the least 🍀

Austin, TX - 78752

Our Northcrest Boulevard project was originally built in 1961… our customer Mr. Grish is a long time resident and purchased the home back in 2006. Almost 20 years later decided they needed more space but didn’t want to move from their home in north central Austin. So what was the SOLUTION??

Chop the roof off of the home and add a 2nd story on top!! Somewhat of a conundrum as we work through the challenges of modernizing the ancient with the future. 😂. This baby is getting a brand new electrical system with 2025 NEC standards and we have just begun to bore our first of about 1000 holes to install all the internal wiring!

That’s right your thinking 🧐 is correct: This most certainly is a breaker box… just a BIG one!! In the field this is known as a switchgear or MDP (Main Distribution Panel)…

This monster currently resides in Abilene Texas and is what gives life to the United Market Street grocery store on Buffalo Gap Rd.

This particular job is from the archives… The “Switchgear” was originally constructed and installed in 1980 and was then a Piggly Wiggly grocery store. Later in the mid 1990’s was modified and serviced when the store was sold and remodeled into an Albertsons. Once again the “Switchgear” was serviced and modified for a third time when the store was sold in 2015 and converted into a United Market Street as which it remains today 10 years later.

There is an interesting caveat to this particular job… after the Albertsons conversion in the 90’s the original construction documents and blueprints for the structure were lost or destroyed 😵‍💫. In 2015 when we began the Market Street remodel we were completely blind going into an electrical system of very great magnitude!! What was the most amazing thing about the entire project was that the original constructing electrician from 1980 was still alive and we were able to get in contact with him. He was pushing 80 years old at the time and he so graciously made several site visits with us in 2015 to help recreate a new schematic of the electrical system!! You see Electrical workers all across Texas are like brothers and sometimes we need a little help from the man who came before, and most of us never forget the intricacies of a particular job and just exactly what was built 35 years prior!! 💪

The Switchgear is quadruple voltage:

480v / 277v on the primary

500KVA transformer in the middle

208v / 120v on the secondary

Project began in February of 2015, completed in July of 2016.

Rise Electrical has had the privilege of having an ongoing job in San Antonio Tx at the Bourne Stage Airfield. Its been a unique and very interesting electrical system construction of a brand new aircraft hangar. Integrated into the inside of the hangar there is a mechanics area and an upstairs pilots lounge… oh and of course indoor storage for multiple aircraft!! We just wanted to share some progression photos with our community!
