Controlled burns are an important land management tool—but safety always comes first 🔥🌿

If you see or plan a controlled burn, keep these safety reminders in mind:

• Only conduct burns when weather conditions are safe (low wind, proper humidity, and approved burn days) 🌤️
• Follow all local regulations and obtain required permits before burning 📋
• Clear the area of dry brush, debris, and other flammable materials before starting 🔥
• Never leave a controlled burn unattended—stay with it until it is completely extinguished 🚫
• Keep water, hoses, or fire suppression tools nearby at all times 💧
• Be aware of smoke conditions and alert neighbors when appropriate 🌫️

Controlled burns can help reduce wildfire risk, but only when done carefully and responsibly. When in doubt, contact your local fire authority for guidance 📞

If you get a call saying you’ve overpaid your energy bill and need to provide banking or credit card information to receive a refund—hang up 🚫📞 It’s likely a scam.

If an overpayment does happen, your utility will either apply the credit to your account or send a check by mail. They will never call and ask for your personal banking details to issue a refund 🔒💡When in doubt, call Tri-County at 800-343-2559.

Today marks the anniversary of a moment that transformed rural America.

In 1935, during the Great Depression, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt established the Rural Electrification Administration through an Executive Order—part of his New Deal efforts to expand opportunity and put Americans back to work. The following year, on May 20, 1936, he signed the Rural Electrification Act into law.

That same year, in November 1936, Tri-County Rural Electric Cooperative was formed, and by November 1937, its first lines were energized—bringing power, progress, and new opportunity to rural homes and farms across our region.

Electricity didn’t just turn on lights. It modernized agriculture, improved safety, strengthened local economies, and helped rural communities thrive.

As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, we’re reminded that America’s strength has always come from investing in its people and its infrastructure. Rural electrification is a shining example of that legacy—and one we’re proud to carry forward every day.
