Five things to look for on the first page of any solar proposal, before you get to the
numbers:
1. Who is the accountable firm on year 10? (Not “the manufacturer.” The firm you
signed with.)
2. Is monitoring included, and for how long, and by whom?
3. Does the warranty transfer if the installer sells the company?
4. Is the interconnection filing named — the specific rider and the specific queue
position — or is it a placeholder?
5. Is there a single named person on the contract, or is it a signature block?
If any of the five answers isn’t clear on the first page, the proposal isn’t finished.
Ask for the finished version.

Ameren rate cases matter to farm operators in a way solar salespeople rarely explain properly.
A rate case sets what you pay per kWh and what you pay in demand charges.
Those two numbers, together, are what an owned solar system offsets. When a rate case raises the per-kWh rate — as most Illinois rate cases have — your system’s value rises with it, because the electricity you’re producing is displacing more expensive grid draw.
