Aging electrical turned into an urgent matter for this Manteo resident. When Dominion Energy arrived at their home to install the new Smart meter, their service was immediately flagged for disconnect if not repaired within 30 days.
The meter base was no longer attached to the pole. The pole that the service was mounted to was rotten at grade level and at some point had this 4"x6" post installed as additional support. Essentially a band-aid for the time.
This customer was on a fixed budget and couldn't afford all new equipment to be installed. While we encourage equipment replacement in a situation like this, if the equipment is in good working condition it is suitable to remain.
We obtained the proper Dare county permit and scheduled with Dominion Energy for a drop service after meeting on-site with Dominion's local electrical designer. It may not be easy to see but the service drop was actually laying on the roof of the home and required to be rerouted to the pole shown on the last pictures. Our team jumped into action and was able to salvage this existing equipment, saving the customer money. We performed a PM to the equipment, inspected , cleaned and torqued.
