Sometimes providing conduits for life's resources is hard work. Often, it is uncomfortable work. If you are in central Texas, you weathered this cold and wet with us over the last few days. When the weather is like this, providing conduit (putting pipe in the ground) gets really hard and messy.
In life, we also experience seasons and some of them are messy and hard to work through. In a letter to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul wrote, "But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;" He closes this letter with, "So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen."
We make a living putting pipe in the ground. This pipe carries resources into and out of communities, making life in that community possible. Our work is quickly covered up and forgotten (or at least taken for granted). Not so with Christ!
There is a resource we can look to, to renew us day by day. Paul assures us that as we are passing through a season that has us feeling afflicted, crushed, perplexed, desperate, persecuted, forsaken, struckdown, and on the verge of destruction, it is only a momentary situation. This season will quickly turn to "an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison". Jesus is the conduit that carries us to that glory.
Jesus was buried but could not be forgotten. God raised Him up and conquered all of our worst fears...providing us a conduit to all of the resources of God.
