Standing water is often a symptom, not the problem.
Chicagoland has a lot of dense clay soil. The ground compacts and the grade settles. This causes water to sit in low spots instead of moving away from the home. In other cases, the issue starts with a downspout that releases too much water too close to the foundation.

The right solution depends on the property. Sometimes the answer is a simple regrade. Sometimes it is extending downspouts. Sometimes improving the soil is helpful.

The goal is not simply to move water somewhere else. It is to guide it away from the house without creating a new issue for the neighbor next door.

Two years later, artificial turf was installed in the Houston Astrodome, where it became known as AstroTurf. Since then, it has become a low-maintenance way to keep lawns and outdoor spaces green without mowing or regular watering.
