Let me tell you a little story about this amazing bathroom transformation we just wrapped up.
Years ago, I was a repair program manager at a local nonprofit housing organization and went to a home owner's house to help with replacing old windows. The home owner is wheelchair bound and showed me the very, very narrow bathroom. I remember standing in the space puzzling over how to redesign it for wheelchair access - there were so many obstacles in the space with an exterior door, windows, radiators, basement stairs and a washer and dryer to contend with. I didn't have any easy or cost effective answers and the program I was working for had limited resources. We replaced the windows but weren't able to touch the bathroom. Eventually I left that organization and founded Fox Contracting.
Years later, in collaboration with UPCAP, as Fox Contracting we were sent to a home owner's house to remodel a bathroom for accessibility and I found myself standing right back in that same spot, puzzling again over how to transform it into a safe, inviting space. This time, with my skillful and knowledgeable team, we found the perfect solution. A full demo right down to the studs, including replacing the ceiling joists and re-insulating the ceiling, moving radiators, removing a window, and (my favorite part) exposing an absolutely gorgeous chimney from a bulky chase to gain as much room as possible, lining the chimney and redirecting the boiler.
I'm proud of the hard work we put into this project and am even more proud that as a result of this collaboration, someone has safe, easy access to a vital part of their home.
