THINKING WITH THE HEART

Pr23:7 says about man, “…as he THINKS IN HIS HEART, so is he…”
THINKS shaar: To calculate, reckon, estimate, or think
HEART – leb: the heart, the feelings, the will, the intellect, the center of being

WHAAAAT? YOU CAN THINK IN YOUR HEART?

In 1991, pioneer neuro-cardiologist Dr. J. Andrew Armour discovered that the heart possessed its own complex nervous system that acts as a brain… yet functions independently from the brain in the head.
He coined the term, “HEART BRAIN”, and has proven this “HEART BRAIN” senses, processes and records information internally and autonomously, usually WELL BEFORE the brain’s conscious thought reacts to it.
It is the body’s FIRST RESPONDER.

Apparently science is finally acknowledging what the Bible has always stated: THE HEART… not the brain… has always been considered to be the center of being… It is referenced as the source of all emotion, will, thought, purpose, intent, intuition, direction, conscience, intellect, and life itself.
And since “the fall” of man, that “source”, having been separated from union with the very heartbeat of The Creator, is dark, wicked, deceitful, and evil… taking after “the father of all lies”.

Hence… Jer17:9 “THE HEART is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

That is why “you MUST be BORN AGAIN!” (Jn3:3,7)

Eze36:26-27 “…I will give you A NEW HEART and put a new spirit within you…”

2Cor5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, ALL THINGS are become new.”

As a NEW CREATURE… one that never existed before… with A NEW HEART… we have a new source of thought and idea generation… a new center of intent and purpose… a new vantage point from which to see all of life…
We NOW have the MIND OF CHRIST (1Cor2:16)
We NOW have the SPIRIT of wisdom and revelation
in the knowledge of Him [IN HIS KNOWLEDGE] (Eph1:17)
IT IS NOT BY OUR OWN INTELLIGENCE ANYMORE!

“Trust in the LORD with ALL your HEART, And lean not on your OWN UNDERSTANDING (the faculty of insight and discernment)
“In all your ways be intimately one with him,
he will lead you wherever you go.” [Pr3:5-6(literal)]

I travelled a lot when our family was young. One day I asked my wife how she made all the decisions and kept everything flowing seamlessly in my absence. She answered with something that changed my view of life.
She said, “I think with YOUR HEART.”

That is how WE NOW LIVE…
WE THINK WITH HIS HEART.

THE FOOD PRAYER

Paul, on the topic of abstaining from certain foods, explicitly tells Timothy,
“…For EVERYTHING God has created is GOOD,
and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with GRATITUDE;
for it is SANCTIFIED [set apart, dedicated to God] by means of the WORD OF GOD and PRAYER.” (1Ti4:4-5AMP)

Most of us have been taught from a young age to pray for our food.
We don't necessarily know “WHY”…
BUT WE DO IT…
…even into our old age,
knowing it is something “proper” to be done, becoming just another thoughtless, religious mantra chanted as a precursor to satiating our appetite.

We have even invented clever, rhyming “prayers” easily remembered and quoted by children.
The one my dad taught me:
“Down with your head… up with your paws… thank the good Lord for the use of your jaws”

Now… was I receiving that bologna sandwich with gratitude?
YOU BETCHYA!

Was I grateful to God “who gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1Ti6:17)?
Ehhh… frankly, I don't remember thinking much about Him at all in that.
I was just happy that my growling stomach was momentarily satisfied.

BUT…
What if I truly receive with THANKSGIVING what has been graciously given by MY FATHER?

What if I really SANCTIFIED [consecrated, dedicated, regarded and set apart as especially sacred (holy)] the food I receive into this temple of the Most High God? (1Cor3:16)

HOW?

Remember… FAITH is the place from which I see all of life… the place from which my decisions are made… seated at the right hand of the Father in Christ Jesus. (Col3:1)

So… how does HE see this FOOD HE CREATED? …AS GOOD?
What is HIS “thought, intent, purpose, and motive” [HIS WORD – logos] behind HIS PROVISION for me?
Then… what would I SPEAK over it?

“PRAYER” is not begging a reluctant God to provide us with what we desire.
In 1Ti4:5 “PRAYER” is the same word “enteuxis” translated “INTERCESSION” in other verses.
Properly defined as: intervention which literally "Strikes the bulls-eye - spot on".

Thus, biblical INTERCESSION is learning from THE LORD what hits the HEART of HIS WILL… guiding the believer to ACT AS HIS AGENT.

NOW…
The food I eat with gratitude is targeted and SANCTIFIED specifically, by SPEAKING as an agent of God – His Son – what HE THINKS, INTENDS, DESIRES about what HE HAS PROVIDED.

PRAYER THAT AVAILS MUCH

WOW!
Who doesn't want PRAYER that AVAILS MUCH (literally: very combative, engaging, overcoming, and prevailing)?

But we as humans always look for “the formula” that brings about the activation of God’s promises in our life…even though HIS GRACE… AND HIS POWER… HAS ALREADY GIVEN US ALL THINGS pertaining unto life and godliness.

Ja5:16 “The effectual FERVENT PRAYER of a righteous man avails much.”

“FERVENT PRAYER” is the Greek word, “deesis” - an urgent, heart-felt petition arising out of a deep, personal sense of lack, want, or need.
It is only translated PRAYER a few times…
and translated “entreaties or supplications” in 1Tim2:1.
Due to surrounding words, it’s presented as a word picture of: “a childlike confidence as the heart converses with God.”
This verse differentiates SUPPLICATIONS (“deesis” ) from PRAYER (proseuche – to exchange your thoughts, wishes, and desires for HIS.)

The verses following Ja5:16 shed light on what makes this type of “FERVENT PRAYER”…
1. EFFECTIVE – energized… working in a situation like an electrical current energizing a wire to make a light shine.
2. AVAIL MUCH - strengthened by the Lord with combative, confrontive force to achieve victory and prevail.

In Ja5:17-18 Elijah is presented as an example of this type of “PRAYER”,
referencing 1Ki17-18.
However, 1Ki17-18 never really mentions Elijah PRAYING – as we know it – BUT…
• 1Ki17 he SPOKE on God’s behalf…
• 1Ki18:1, GOD SPOKE to him saying, “Go…I will make it rain again”
• 1Ki18:36-37 Elijah DECLARED, “Lord, God… YOUR will be done… demonstrate who YOU ARE”.
[reminiscent of how disciples were taught to PRAY (proseuchomai) (Lk11:1-4)]

So… Elijah and God conversed,
resulting in Elijah DECLARING God’s wishes and desires “ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.”

Back to Jas5:17, which literally states: “with FERVENT PRAYER he PRAYED for it.”
Jas5:18 “and again he PRAYED, and it rained”
…all three times Elijah’s “PRAYER” is described using a form of proseuche – having that intimate exchange with God,

SO… PRAYER THAT AVAILS MUCH comes from a deep, urgent need drawing you into a childlike, trusting intercommunication with your Heavenly Father, exchanging your thoughts, desires, and wishes for HIS… energizing and strengthening you…
…TO BOLDLY DECLARE HIS WILL AND PURPOSE!
…IN VICTORY!
