This is why hiring an experienced contractor matters.

A deck can look great on the surface, but what’s underneath matters just as much.

This deck was built with improper framing, leaving the boards without enough bearing at the joints. To compensate, the boards were screwed in at an angle without pre-drilling, leading to visible cracking. There was also no flashing, leaving the framing vulnerable to moisture and rot--an expensive AND dangerous oversight.

The homeowner paid over $50K for this deck.

The result...

Many cheaper companies will try to skip essential steps to cut costs. In this case, the previous deck was built without flashing, leaving the structural supports vulnerable to water and the elements. Over time, this can lead to wood rot, compromised structural integrity, and potentially dangerous situations—including deck failure or collapse.

Thankfully, the EJS team immediately noticed this, and was able to replace and repair all the damaged portions before rebuilding our customer's deck, ensuring a safe and solid foundation.
